Betty anne Posted January 21, 2005 #1 Share Posted January 21, 2005 Hi Folks, I am looking into hotels for a pre cruise stay, and was quoted in Australian dollars. I would appreciate it,if one of our Aussie friends would enlighten me as to what $219.00au is equivalent to in american dollars. Is it advisable to obtain Australian dollars before leaving the USA,since we will be there for a few days, prior to our cruise? Thanks for your assistance. Jane110 Posted January 21, 2005 #3 Share Posted January 21, 2005 Betty Anne, The exchange rate for Australia is $.76 to the dollar, hence, just figure out that everything in Australian dollars is 25% less to you. So $219. Australian is about $155 US Jane
Aussie Gal Posted January 21, 2005 #4 Share Posted January 21, 2005 Betty anne, It is always advisable to arrive into a foreign country eg. Australia with some currency of that country. It just helps with taxis, phone calls etc. and saves you looking around for an ATM (which are readily available) before you can start enjoying yourself. If you can get the money from home all the better but if you can't, there are money exchanges at the airport, though they give you a terrible rate. Hotels are even worse so you use the ATM's when you can. Jennie
Globaliser Posted January 21, 2005 #5 Share Posted January 21, 2005 You may find this link helpful. Also, if you're working online, try this one - www.xe.net/pca - it will open a small floating popup window (if you don't use a popup blocker) with an online currency converter, and then return your main window to the page that you were using before. Betty anne Posted January 22, 2005 Author #6 Share Posted January 22, 2005 Thanks everyone, At least I have a little insight as to the conversion rate.I also realize that the rate might be a little different by the time we arrive, but I can possibly reserve our hotel rooms at the present rate. We will purchase some Australian dollars before leaving home. Thanks again. Betty anne
