Liquor on lately???

If you scroll down on Celebrity's page you see the unlimited frozen/blended drink option is $22 per day. And yeah the NCL option being limited to large groups is kind of useless for most. I'd happily pay NCL $51 pp/day though for it if they did offer it to all.

 

Funny that this part was never revisited. Celebrity now offers unlimited beverage packages on all of their cruises; with or without booze.

I'm going to be sailing NCL for the first time in October on POA in Hawaii. I wish NCL offered something like this...I'd pay $350 a week for unlimited cocktails, wine, and beer!

Wow...reading this thread almost has me re-thinking my first cruise (Jade in September).

Seems to be alot of expectations from the cruise line once you've purchased your tickets.

We don't expect to be spending tons of cash on drinks or excursions or anything else they will be flogging on this ship...does that make us undesireable as customers?

Excursions we have booked for various reasons, mostly because we don't want to travel in such a large group and become irritated waiting for other people to catch up all day...that and the excursions we booked can be customized for our interests..if this decision affects NCL's bottom line then perhaps they should re-think the value-addedness of their excursions.

Drinks? of course I won't smuggle alcohol on board, I will pay the corkage fee to bring on my celebratory bottle of Dom....I'll likely even buy one of those cutesy little souvenir drinks for sailaway....

Don't gamble so they won't get much on me that way....

Shopping? if there is something I have to have...then I'll buy it...nuff said...

I somehow feel we won't be welcome aboard...

You will be more than welcome onboard. But, if you go with this huge chip on your shoulder you may not enjoy yourself. All cruise lines business models take into account that not everyone is going to run up large onboard accounts. Go and enjoy you cruise but leave the attitude on shore.;)

NCL, like most cruiselines, make most of their money in three places:

1.) On board alcohol sales

2.) Shore excursion sales

3.) Casino sales

(the photo department, specialty restaurants and shops do bring in additional revenues, but not nearly the bulk of it.)

 

I was watching a special a few months ago that followed an NCL cruise to the carribean and they interviewed Andy Stuart extensively in the show. Although he wouldn't release specific numbers, he said the cruise line depends on alcohol sales.

 

On the cruise on the show, they were going into the last day of the cruise and were down a sizeable amount of the revenue that they needed for the week. They were hoping for a beautiful, hot day to get the people drinking on deck and into the casino. They got their wish and when they asked Andy if they had made up for what they needed, he smiled like a chesire cat and said yes. So now you know why the waiters push drinks so much and why it is hard to lounge around the pool without a waiter bothering you every 5 minutes about ordering a drink.... it is their life blood.

 

If you are not wanted by NCL, then neither am I. No one in my family (or our large extended group of 18 that just sailed) drinks alcohol and no one ordered any drinks. (the 3 kids had soda cards and that was it.). Most of us don't drink coffee and those that do don't like the fancy, specialty coffees...no money there. We only went once to a specialty restaurant (the cheapest) and we don't gamble. (no casino on the POAm so that didn't matter on this cruise.). We cancelled most of our NCL shore excursions for private companies because they were half the price of NCL.

 

My total on board bill for 7 days....$1001.62. (that includes $250 in daily service charges and $400 in shore excursions that we could not cancel.)

 

.... and that was on the Pride of America... a ship that needs every dime it can get!

 

If you are not wanted by NCL, then I am even more so.

Don't be confused by corporate policies. The people who work on the ships want you there and want you to enjoy your cruise whether you spend money or not. Of course they offer a lot of opportunities for you to buy, but that is their job. They like to create a pleasant atmosphere for you and are not bothered by the word "no".

I kind of feel about smugglers, like I do about drunk drivers, if a person is caught drunk driving, (I do mean drunk, not high), he/she needs to be taken behind the police car and shot, and the morgue call to carry the body away!:eek: They are traveling on our roads and risking the lives of our families. The LAW and Their RULES, when you are in their place, are firm and should be obeyed, your contract with cruise line explains that, very clearly!;)

WOW!! You really think someone who goes on a cruise vacation and brings a little booze to relax a bit and may even get drunk should be shot? :eek: Sure hope I'm not on the same one. Yikes! :rolleyes:

I have never felt anything even close to "unwelcome". I am not a big spender onboard--I guess like you I am somewhere in between.

 

To date, I have paid my share of corkage fees (maybe more--I really LOVE fine wine!), I have been to a few specialty restaurants, paid for internet service, taken one NCL excursion (only because my similar excursion was canceled the day before due to rain), have a few drinks onboard, throw a few coins in the slot machine.

But don't play BINGO, or buy the pull tab cards they hawk at the theater, drink to excess, purchase photos or have spa treatments.

 

I feel SO WELCOME that I can hardly express how wonderful the NCL staff has made me feel about my cruise vacation.

Nearly every staff member I have had the chance to interact with has been genuinely nice, even if I wasn't making a purchase.

Maybe I have rose colored glasses, but if I do, I am glad!:D

What is the bar setup?

 

Do we bring our own alcohol, and pay a fee? Or is it a stocked bar in your room that can drink as much as you want?

 

Is there a pass like the sodas, where you pay a price per day for unlimited alcohol? Probably not, but worth a shot asking lol..

 

If I want it, How do I order it, and how much does it cost?

NCL "needs" each passenger to spend a certain amnt on booze? So then I'm back to the old argument--if someone obeys the rules/law and doesn't smuggle--BUT also doesn't buy drinks for whatever reason--then they are equally wrong as far as NCl is concerned.

 

I don't "need" to subsidize ANY cruise line. My contract with the cruise line is I pay my fare, port charge, taxes and DSC and I get a cruise. period. And if that's all I do, am I wrong? No smuggling, just watching my budget!

 

 

I disagree with the first statement. We usually bring bring Tequila or rum in a water bottle, i fail to see how i am cutting in on the cruise company's bottom line.

 

If i didnt bring my own stuff, i wouldnt buy any of their drinks anyway, so i am not stealing or cutting in on the bottom line in any way.

I am cruising on the Carnival Miracle, and I was told to check out the Rum Runner Flasks. Is it easy to sneak on? How would I go about hiding it? On my carry on? Or in a pant leg of my checked in luggage?

This is the NCL forum. You could try re-asking your question on the Carnival board but since it's a non-Carnival question, you could just try doing a search. There are numerous threads on CC concerning rum runners.

LMAO...so you or your kids will be the ones with the pot? So glad you specified drunk and not high...what a hoot!
