Are Spirit cabins really that small?

We will be cruising on the Spirit in a couple of weeks and have booked an inside cabin on Deck 10 for two adults and two teenagers. Will we be cramped in this cabin. We have always cruised on Carnival ships and this will be our first time on a norwegian ship.

The typical inside cabin on the Spirit is about 149 sq feet, there are some that are quite a bit larger...

It will be tight. You have 3 lower beds and 1 upper bed for sleeping arrangements. This makes wall to wall beds. You may want to try and arrange the beds into a U configuration. I was not able to do this when we had an inside on the Spirit however.

We have been on the Spirit twice. We love the ship even though the cabins are a bit small for a family of 4. The second time we sailed in 2 ocean view cabins and this made things much easier.

I hope it is not that tight. Although, we probably not spend much time in the room anyway.

AuTiger, I took my daughter and daughter-in-laws on the RCI ship Majesty of the Seas and it was a 119 sq. ft. cabin and it was very crowded, we would have to sit on the bed to get ready, but we had so much fun. We did take turns getting ready in the evening for dinner, it was easier if we would just go do something while others were showering and doing their hair. Just go with the attitude that you are going to enjoy your cruise and I'm sure everything will be fine. I have been on several Carnival cruises and the cabins are larger I think around 160 to 185 sq. ft., but you will probably like the shower better on the Spirit, they have a door instead of a curtain.

When you think most of the cabins are near twenty feet in length, a cabin one foot shorter in width would add up to twenty square feet. That is about the difference between 170 square feet compared to 150 square feet.

I think you will find that one foot along a side wall, bulkhead, not that much of a difference.

If you are use to a Carnival ship that the rooms might be 185 sq. feet inside, you will feel a difference.

There are lots of folks that will book a inside for 3.... 4 is too many for me.

We booked an outside on the spirit. We had 3 on other NCL ship and we did fine.

We really enjoyed the Spirit (we weren't that excited about sailing with NCL again) but the Spirit is a great ship and I'm trying to figure out how we can sail her again!

even on Carnival 2 adults and 2 teens in an inside cabin would seem very tight to me. Yes, they are small on the Spirit but the bathrooms are the nicest of any we have seen and the ship is wonderful...Have a great cruise..

I think RCIs Majesty has about the smallest cabins we have ever seen. Even the old NCL Sea had bigger ones I think. thank goodness we didn't base having a good cruise on the size of the cabin that time..

We spent a week on the Spirit in a balcony cabin and it felt a bit tight for two. The real problem you will have is where to put your clothes. We had three very small drawers, and five inconventiently placed shelves in the closet. Be careful with the shelves since they do not go to the wall and stuff fell off behind them. We had to hang up as much as possible.

I hope no one is claustrophobic!

We sailed once on the Spirit on an Alaskan cruise. We also had four in a cabin. It was a very tight fit, but we survived the week. We found storage on the Spirit less than on other NCL ships. The Spirit was originally built as a ship for Star Cruises, which used it on short gambling cruises in the Asian market. So, the cabins didn't need much storage as the cruise length was only a few dys at a time.

It will be very tight for four people. Barely any storage space, and for 4 people, I don't know where you will put all the suitcases... They won't all fit under the beds. Bathrooms are tiny as well and with 2 adults & two teens.....wow! Is it possible for you to get them their own room? The Spirit even has connecting rooms if you wish.

DH & I had a balcony on the "Spirit" in December and had problems finding places to put our clothes. There were 3 extremely small drawers and 2 or 3 "half-shelves' in the closet. We traveled with family - most had 3 persons in one room - and they were ready to mutiny by the end of the trip. Just too cramped & crowded to be comfortable, and the "bathroom" thing was a nightmare for them. To get everyone ready for dinner, they had to start about 2 hours ahead of time. (Showers, hair-drying, make-up, changing clothes, etc.)

The "Spirit" was originally designed for an Asian market, so there is not the room in the cabins you will find on other ships. I suppose anything is do-able, but you may need to schedule "shifts" for showers, dressing, changing clothes, etc. Are your teens both boys, both girls, or one of each? That also will make a difference.

I wish you all good luck and have a good cruise. :)

These cabins are smaller than average because the ship was designed as an Asian gambling ship, and guests were supposed to spend all their time in the casino, which is the largest in the NCL fleet. I just came back from a cruise on the Spirit and was in 4512. This has a port instead of a window (this is fine with me), and has a good sized closet, and a chest of drawers and a small table with one more drawer under it. Storage was adequate for 2 adults. There is room in the closet for the suit cases. The bathroom was super-- a sliding glass door instead of a curtain, and an excellent shower system. RC has bigger cabins, but I like NCL's bathrooms better, and the free-style dining makes up for the smaller cabin. You don't have to rush back from an excursion and have dinner before you have showered (because you had the first dinner seating time), which is what happens on other cruise lines.

they are smaller and as mentioned, the big problem is going to be storage space. the OP will have to leave some things in their luggage I am guessing..

How much smaller? I was checking and the inside cabins on the Pearl were listed as 143 sq ft., (I thought?) and the Sprirt's were 149 sq ft. Is that correct? I may have mis read that?

Assume you have ruled out two insides so kids can have their own room, and own mess and own hours and own bath and own tv programs, etc.?

I would have loved to book two rooms but we just booked three weeks ago and this room popped up out of no where so I had to grab it. The cruise that we are going has been sold out for weeks. My in-laws have a balcony room booked right across from us. Maybe we can pawn one of my kids to them????:)

Not a bad idea if the grandparents didn't mind. I would sure talk it over with them....;)

Is there a sleeper sofa in the balcony rooms? Based on the deck drawings, my in-laws room is not a 3 person cabin. I am not sure if this would work.

This is slightly off topic...but I am booked right under that HUGE casino...any one been in those cabins before? How loud can I expect it to be? Or should I say how drunk am I gonna need to be to sleep at night? I have posed this question on another thread but never got an answer.

No room under the bed is BOLDERDASH Here is a line from our Spirit review ( link in my signature )

We found that all our luggage fit under our bed, EVEN my golf clubs. That’s 2 garment bags, 1 30” suit case and 1 40” suit case, 1 golf bag full of clubs. We had plenty of room in the closet to hang everything that need it and the shelves in the closet held the rest with no problem.
