Malibu Beach

I wouldn't waste my time going to Malibu. They charge too much and the gift shop is a joke. Right beside the port is Brandon's Beach. It is beautiful, water is great and you can rent chairs and umbrellas. Next visit to Barbados, that's where we're parking ourselves!

If you decide to do the Malibu Rum Factory, don't go there by way of a Taxi like I did. They only book tours with groups or excursions through your ship. No more individual tours.

Also, Brandon's beach is nice and you can walk there from the ship. Lots of shade, pic-nic tables, and a small place to eat/drink. It's a half-hour walk from the ship. Just remember your path, for the way back can get a little confusing.

Don't bother with Malibu beach. Water is very cloudy, large rocks under the surface of the water. Its also between what looks like two industrial areas, and make me wonder what i was really swimming in. I will never go to this beach again!

and make me wonder what I was really swimming in. ===> Dilute refinery effluent? :D

I will never go to this beach again!

Basically the real story boils down to...

if you're a Rum God and are fascinated with the whole refinery-tour and tasting thing

(and don't care to do much else on the island)

then it's simply Something To Do For The Day, close to the ship!

The only locals who swim down at the other end of the beach

are the very-local lower income ones, who live nearby in the projects!

It's probably a good bit sandy-er down that way

-that's why they swim there, and not at the Malibu end! :D

Even the whites who live in the nicer Brighton community right alongside Malibu

rarely swim there!

They get in their cars and head for Accra, or Sandy Lane -or Carlisle Bay?

For a spell back in 1977/78, I used to live in one of those houses,OK?

And I recall swimming out there just the once: Barbados has better beaches.. ;)

So that explains why I was the only white guy on the beach! THX

Thought it was because it rained so hard all Monday Morning last week and no one wanted to go there. ;)

Well, that too yes!

THAT Rain was the first real rain the island had, in six long and very dry weeks...since Jan 12th!

Trust me, it was very welcome water input! Sorry it spoiled your beach day

but we on the island are very glad you brought the relief with you.

Actually it didn't spoil my beach day!

I was elated to see such a storm and happy for you guys. Caught a ride with a taxi driver from the cruise port that was dropping off people downtown to shop. He gave me a FREE ride to Malibu Beach Club just because of my positive attitude about the storm. We talked and laughed during the short trip and wouldn't take my money. I still gave him $5 US and thanked him for the fun and knowledgeable ride.

Next time I visit, I'll bring more rain if you need it. ;)
