scf1270 Posted March 11, 2010 #1 Share Posted March 11, 2010 We have booked a CC balcony room on the Panorama deck (8), port/aft. Looks like smoking is allowed outside on the Resort Deck (10), port/aft. Should we be safe from smoke wafting our way? This is NOT a pro/con smoking question - so don't go there please :-). We are non smokers who appreciate Celebrities strict policies and choose them for our 1st cruise largely based on that. This will be our third, and we find the "smoking allowed" areas generally easy to avoid. That said, I have bronchial asthma that is easily triggered by second-hand smoke - so extra caution is the name of my game. Thanks in advance! Denny01 Posted March 11, 2010 #2 Share Posted March 11, 2010 We are non also and have had balconies just below smoking areas and haven't had a problem You never know how smoke travels but you have a deck between so Id assume (a word that usually gets you in trouble) you are ok. Have a great cruise! Den
scf1270 Posted March 11, 2010 Author #3 Share Posted March 11, 2010 I hoped it was a bit of an "over-reacting" question/concern - but going for better safe than sorry. This is our first CC level room, and we are SO excited! Thanks, Sara

cb at sea Posted March 11, 2010 #5 Share Posted March 11, 2010 We've NEVER had a problem from smokers, unless we're standing in a smoking area.....it's not the big deal some make it to be!

Rick-n-MeMe Posted March 11, 2010 #7 Share Posted March 11, 2010 We were in cabin 8185 CC and did encounter occasional smoke smell. It mostly occurred when we were in port and/or when people stood on the rail two floors above us. It isn't enough for you to worry about though. As a matter of fact, we have that same cabin next December.
scf1270 Posted March 11, 2010 Author #8 Share Posted March 11, 2010 Thanks Rick & Anne. Funny you should mention 8185. We have a CC3 room, but 8185 popped up as avail. Everyone raves abt those CC aft suites. Wondering if it worth $another $100pp to ungrade. Would love to hear your thoughts... Thanks, Sara
labeachcomber Posted March 11, 2010 #9 Share Posted March 11, 2010 Sara, Are there comparable cabins on the starboard side in the mirror location? We booked on starboard side just to be safe from wafting smoke.
PatC Posted March 11, 2010 #10 Share Posted March 11, 2010 I hate the smell of smoke and have sailed in 8185 - great cabin and great location. Enjoy if you can grab it! Pat C
mgcarnut Posted March 11, 2010 #11 Share Posted March 11, 2010 We were in 8185 for our Panama Canal transit in January on the Constellation. I can echo Rick-n-MeMe's experience. We noticed a bit of smoke odor when in port wafting down from Deck 10, but never had a problem when the ship was underway. The place we noticed the smoke the most was while walking along the port side of the swimming pool area. Cheers, mgcarnut
packedandready Posted March 11, 2010 #12 Share Posted March 11, 2010 So, if we're wanting to avoid this possibility, should we book starboard? That's the right hand side of the ship...right???? Looking at 7202 on the Equinox....any thoughts????? thanks

Looking at 7202 on the Equinox....any thoughts????? thanks Yes, starboard is right side, and yes that would be a good spot. Although Equinox does have smoking on the starboard side of the deck above the pool deck, that is so high up from 7202 that it should not be even slightly noticeable. CruisinAddict Posted March 11, 2010 #14 Share Posted March 11, 2010 We were in a cabin on deck 6 portside on the Equinox WBTA in November, and the smoking on the promenade deck below us, which was allowed, was enough to keep us from using our balcony. We ended up having to switch to a cabin on the starboard side midway through the cruise. This was the first time we ever booked a balcony, because I was always afraid I would be affected by second-hand smoke. With Celebrity's non-smoking on balcony policy, though, we decided to give it a try.
scf1270 Posted March 11, 2010 Author #15 Share Posted March 11, 2010 Thanks for all the great feedback. It's been really helpful. This morning 8172 was open (CC1, aft balcony that everyone seems to love :-), and we switched! We gave up the Resident Rate, but there was a Captian's Clb coupon we could use - so it didn't cost much more. I has asked about 8185, but that was gone. Works anyway because 8172 is a bit more toward starboard. Thanks again!!!!
Rick-n-MeMe Posted March 14, 2010 #16 Share Posted March 14, 2010 You will love the quiet aft location and 8172 is perfect. We totally enjoyed 8185 and 8172 will be the same. The balcony is huge and there is so much room. Enjoy!

scf1270 Posted March 15, 2010 Author #18 Share Posted March 15, 2010 The picture is great! I am really looking forward to the lounge chairs and the shade. We will use our balcony soooooo much. When do you cruise again???
Rick-n-MeMe Posted March 15, 2010 #19 Share Posted March 15, 2010 We cruise again in May. It is a transatlantic from Fort Lauderdale to Barcelona on the Holland America Noordam ship. We once again have an aft balcony on this cruise as well. Our next cruise on the Constellation in #8185 will be in December 2010. We loved the Constellation since it was quite smoke free and the service was excellent. Enjoy!

RoonilWazlib Posted November 14, 2012 #22 Share Posted November 14, 2012 This is a bit of an old thread now, but in my search I found that it was the EXACT same question I have! Hoping for some more recent opinions?? Fiance and I are getting married on our first cruise next spring on the Silhouette! We upgraded to a balcony cabin on the port side (8235) after a lot of talk about it after originally booking an oceanview cabin. I am soooo excited for this balcony, and I really really don't want it spoiled by smoke, one of my absolute least favorite smells! We live in an apartment and people are always smoking below our window. It gets sucked right in and really sours my mood when it happens. I do NOT want this happening on my wedding cruise that we have saved so much for! How big of a problem do you think it could be? Should we go through the hassle of trying to change to a cabin on the starboard side? Thanks!

Should we go through the hassle of trying to change to a cabin on the starboard side? Thanks! Good job on searching :-) I was in 8279 on both the Equinox and the Reflection. I did indeed notice the smoke smell, moreso on the Equinox however. If you don't want to risk it, move to starboard side of that deck. I found that at times it kinda got trapped in my verandah - but understand I was directly over the smoking area - as I was in a 1A category stateroom on the hump which overhung that area. And, changing to a starboard cabin shouldn't be a "hassle" just call up celebrity or your travel agent. If you're close to your sailing date you might find it's sold out however. You didn't mention when you are sailing. If you do, maybe we can help you find a starboard one to request. ;-)
ariawoman Posted November 14, 2012 #24 Share Posted November 14, 2012 Ok nevermind i saw your ticker. Looks like you have a 1C. There are some available that are really far forward and some midship/aft. Do you know how you guys are with seasickness? If you're not sure - stay midship as you are currently. 8274 appears to be the closest cabin that's open in the midship area. A little farther back theres 8282, 8290, 8294, 8298 all starboard. Hope this helps some. There are definitely plenty of available cabins in your category. You dont have an extra large verandah or anything to preserve being in 8235 so moving around shouldn't cause too much of a difference aside from getting away from the smoking area. :-) If you want to upgrade yourself though for a little more money - there are a bunch of extra large verandahs open in the 1A category ;-)

If you are sensitive to cigarette smoke I would move; if you do not have a particularly strong sense of smell you should be OK. You are high enough up that for some people it is a non-issue, but several people on deck eight have indicated that they were negatively impacted by smoke. It will only be a potential issue if your stateroom is in the middle third of the port side. It should not be difficult to switch rooms if you are in the middle area and are sensitive to smoke. Good luck on the upcoming wedding and congratties! :)
