Travelingsisters Posted March 12, 2010 #1 Share Posted March 12, 2010 Thinking of taking a cruise out of California in July and was wondering if buying airline tickets now is too early or should I wait? We usually cruise out of New York. Any advice would be appreciated. I am cruising out of NY to Miami this July and already have my tickets. Actually purchased them in Feb. I have found the longer you wait the more expensive they get.

youngestof9 Posted March 12, 2010 #4 Share Posted March 12, 2010 I just purchased my tickets for my January cruise! Found great flights to Miami with the right price and the right time. If it's a good price, go for it!
NMLady Posted March 12, 2010 #5 Share Posted March 12, 2010 I think the closer one gets to summer, the more the airfare rises. I'd buy the tickets NOW, especially if you can get a decent price.
Travelingsisters Posted March 12, 2010 Author #6 Share Posted March 12, 2010 Thanks everyone for your responses. I have already seen the prices rise slightly and just needed your input to get me going. Have a great weekend!
ColinIllinois Posted March 12, 2010 #7 Share Posted March 12, 2010 I got a nice price for my July cruise. St Louis to Miami, nonstop, 360 bucks.
fridaythe13th Posted March 12, 2010 #8 Share Posted March 12, 2010 Don't check prices on the weekends as they seem to be higher. I watch them daily and they do sometimes change that often. When I see a price I'm willing to pay I book. Just last week I checked prices one morning after checking for about a week and found them to be $100 less per person so I booked. I checked the price the following day and it had gone up $170 pp.
Globaliser Posted March 12, 2010 #9 Share Posted March 12, 2010 book with an agency that does 'price assurance'But if you do, make sure you understand exactly what is being offered, and what all the small print means. This may avoid disappointment later if the "price assurance" does not deliver what you assume it should deliver.
DEL67 Posted March 13, 2010 #10 Share Posted March 13, 2010 Price assurance usually means that someone else must book the exact same flights at a lower price and that very rarely happens. I would start looking and book if you find what you believe to be a good priice. Often the best deals are about 90 days out; however sometimes you hit a sale further out. For example I was watching from Newark to California last fall for our April cruise. The fares kept rising so I decided to check on Continental how many seats were left on our preferred flights. When I did, it up with $218 plus tax which was far lower than I had found on any of the search engines. I immediately booked our tickets which was great since I have not seem it anywhere near that price since then.
