am1984 Posted March 14, 2010 #1 Share Posted March 14, 2010 According to the ships web cam, the Pacific Dawn is now bound for Lifou instead of Noumea. It was due in Noumea later today and Lifou tomorrow. Since leaving Brisbane the web cam has shown bound for Noumea & only has changed this morning. Has anyone got any news on this? kiwi sailor Posted March 15, 2010 #3 Share Posted March 15, 2010 Had a text from my daughter on board this morning saying they are now heading to Lifou because of the weather and seas. They left Brisbane four hours late on Saturday because the seas at the mouth of the river weren't favourable.

Rasa Sayang Posted March 15, 2010 #5 Share Posted March 15, 2010 There were some moderate to rough seas coming in last Friday night. Late Friday was 4m swells with winds over the deck of 50+knots. Capt Turnbull was not sure he'd be able to dock as any winds above 15kts and they are NOT allowed to transit the Brisbane River. However, there was a "window" of lower wind speeds early Saturday morning and we got in OK - but they had trouble getting out later in the day. We also had to go to the container dock in Noumea last monday as the winds were too strong for the cruise terminal dock. If this cyclone stays on its present and predicted course, PD may have to track through its "tail" to get in next Saturday.
am1984 Posted March 15, 2010 Author #6 Share Posted March 15, 2010 I also noticed that the Pacific Jewel had berthed at the Noumea contaniner wharf on Saturday, possibly again due to the strong winds in the area.
Sandielle Posted March 15, 2010 #7 Share Posted March 15, 2010 Poor Captain Turnbull! He's certainly living up to his new nickname - "Windy". On our last day - 5 March - he even announced himself as Windy Turnbull. Don't think he'll ever forget his time downunder!! :)

Sandielle Posted March 15, 2010 #9 Share Posted March 15, 2010 Yes, that is all true, Dennis - it's a shame he's not staying here.
bazzaw Posted March 15, 2010 #10 Share Posted March 15, 2010 Quite separate to the issue of the cyclones - that 4 hour delay in departing Brisbane would probably have made berthing at Noumea a waste of time as it would have got in too late (at night).
