Mold taste soda -do not pre order soda package

Recommended Posts

Just got off Seranade of the Seas,3/6 - 3/13, had a great first time cruise,, the pre order soda package is a rip-off. First thing I see when I get onboard is a 25% savings on the spot to order !! Same for the any of the water package, I pre-ordered for my wife and I soda package as we are big Diet Coke drinkers,, we found the Soda in the Sports bar and the theater had an very mold taste to it, we made the person in charge aware of it on the first day,,, still tasted the same the last day!! asking one of the bartenders if we were the only ones to notice it,,, his response was it started the week before, people complained, We made sure we got all our sodas in the windjammer... i am sure was something to do with the amount of soda passing thru the lines.. They wonder where the problems come from?? this aside we had a great time,, lots of fun,, we will go again!! will bring our own soda onboard next time. DO NOT buy tshirts on the boat,, till the last day, half price then, big sale,,, do you know the gift shops are run by the Greyhound Bus folks.

DJ, Royal offers both. The "coke card" is a sticker that they put on your set sail pass and you get unlimited soda ... sometimes fountain cokes, sometimes (on Labadee) from a 2 litre bottle. Bubba, did you try other bars?

the bar in the casino was not quite as bad, but not as good as the windjammer, the small bar in the main area was very good. I am sure it was a cleaning issue with that far area of the boat.. they are no longer using stickers on the cards they are printed on the cards.. i found i didnt have to have my wifes card with me to get 2 sodas at one time.. show my card and have a dollar tip,, NEVER had a hassle anywhere,, we both paid for it,, so i didnt feel like we were doing anything wrong,, was just very easy for me to get the sodas, as she stayed with where she was at,, when we had a waiter in the bars,, just have your dollar out,, you didnt need a card.... i really believe if you wanted to go for a ride in one of the small yellow boats,,, you could have got some to get it down for you if you had a nice tip in hand

In 10 cruises on RCCL, I have never seen them offer the soda card at 25% off, that would be a dream come true for us since we are a family of 7, 6 of which get the soda package.

that is because the soda package costs exactly the same if you pre order or get on board. Sorry the OP is mistaken. Most likely he saw the cost WITHOUT the tax and gratuities added in and thought there was a discount.

What does mold taste like? I have never had the pleasure of tasting it.

Maybe too much seltzer and not enough syrup.

Bill

tastes like what a towel or dishcloth smells like that didn't get to air out and got stinky, that would be gross, I have tasted soda before like that yuck.

It tastes kinda like what a kitchen sponge that's been sitting on the counter too long smells like. Whats worse is my DW and I got a bottled beer full of gross clotted mold in Key West at Sloppy Joe's . It was right after Hurricane George had shut down the city for several days with no power and the storm surge was about 3 feet high inside of Sloppy Joes. But at least we got 2 free shots of free Wild Turkey 101 to kill whatever it was floating in the bottle. Once you taste real clots of mold you won't ever forget it!

Trying to understand the connection between advice which says not to buy the soda card and the unfortunate taste of the soda at two locales on the ship (of course every other locale being OK).

Your sode tasted funny at 2 locations. You took it up with the people

in charge. It was not clear who in particular that was.

First bar people are trained to agree with customers and not argue with them. This is good advice especially when dealing with inebriated souls (not with Diet Coke drinkers of course).

The servers will not confront your judgement on this and may tell you a story which will placate you.

The people to take this up with is 1. Guest Services and then if no satisfaction 2. the Hotel Director.

If it is a question of health and sanitation the Hotel Director will definitely be on it right away. That's what part of their job is.

I drank enough Diet Coke on Serenade in January to fill the pool with

from all over the ship and never had one instance of this occuring.

Unfortunate that it happened to you.

And that's not just mold, that's bacteria that makes it smell like that.
