One day coastal cruise

I am considering taking a one day cruise on either the golen or the sapphire in may. I would be travelling alone. My reason for this it that i see you get the equivalent of two cruise credits when travelling single and i need three credits to get to elite status.

Has anyone done this?

Yes - we have done a one night cruise. They can be a lot of work but we are Elite now because of it - so go for it. How are you planning to get back? The Clipper?

Yes, solo passengers get 2 cruise credits but they also pay double or close to it.

Wouldn't you get four credits if you book a suite solo?

We have done the one night cruise and while it is nice to get the cruise credits for only one night we said "probably never again" when we disembarked. Our cruise may have been the exception, but we found it to be a very chaotic, party boat atmosphere---it took us forever to get into the dining room for dinner and once we did the service was incredibly slow. Don't get me wrong--we did manage to have a nice time but it certainly was not a typical Princess cruise.

If you book solo in a full suite, you'll get your 3 credits :D

Would I do this? NO! Too much trouble and way to expensive just to get a cruise credit.

Take a good attitude, it will be a lot of fun. Our 1-day SEA/YVR which we booked to introduce BIL to cruising was one of the best cruises we have taken. Yes -- it has a party atmosphere and all dining rooms had become anytime dining. Enjoy.

I've done it a couple of times, though only once as a single. I wouldn't do it just for the cruise credit - in it's own right it can be a fun evening away and it gives you the opportunity to look over a ship you may not have seen before. Last year I did one for the opportunity to look over the 670 passenger Pacific Princess, which helped me decide to sail on her later this year.

Sounds about right. That is why I don't really feel like one night cruises are a cheat for a cruise credit - you earn it.:D

To refresh your memory, we were on a taxi tour of Port of Spain, Trinidad together in February. During that tour you gave me the name of any agency you have used for air travel, BT. We just today booked our one-way flight from Burlington, VT to Rome with them after my wife reminded me of your suggestion. I had done a lot of research and they beat all other prices. Thank you for that info.

To refresh your memory, we were on a taxi tour of Port of Spain, Trinidad together in February. During that tour you gave me the name of any agency you have used for air travel, BT. Yep, its a completely different experience and we have done a few one nighters. In fact we avoid bringing first time cruiser friends along because we dont want them to draw the wrong conclusions about the cruising experience.

 

Motivated by the credit toward tiered Captains Circle status, we appreciate that Princess recognizes it. Usually we find a decent deal and look at it the same as spending the night in a nice hotel and having a good dinner. Its really beautiful going north from Seattle thru calm waters of Puget Sound as the sun goes down.

 

Buddy has a good point: Its a great way to experience a specific ship in anticipation of a future cruise.

Usually, it is hard to find the FCC on a 1 night cruises. I have in the past filled out the form and put it in the drop box for a Ghost Booking and the FCC letter is in our mailbox by the morning.

 

We are doing 1 night in Sept 2010 as a B2B for a HAL Coastal and we plan to do a ghost booking onboard.

They usually do a show but I don't remember if it is the Welcome show or another show. Expect there to be a lot of venues with music and performers and they will be hopping. People have one night and make the most of it.

 

The cruise line does some super cheap last minutes deals to try to fill the ship as much as possible and they try to make it up on bar revenue and casino. That is why the music venues will be going - I have never seen Skywalkers as nuts as a one night cruise. The casino tends to be open only for a few hours which means it is pretty crazy too. (I think it is because of the international waters thing)

 

On a one night cruise we were on - a guy in line showed us the Expedia offer he booked for $49 for a balcony for the 1 night. I think he said he booked it a week or two before the cruise.

 

Expect the dining rooms to pretty full as many people on these cruises are first time cruises. That was something that surprised me - imagine your first cruise being a one night cruise. We tend to book dinner in the Crown Grill but sometimes a large group will sell it out.

 

Just and idea - they do one nights in Fall for the other credit.:D We did that so we would be Elite on a 10 night cruise we booked for the spring.

My DW and I did a one night cruise on the Golden in the fall of 2008 to check out the ship for a possible Alaska the cruise the following summer. As others have said, was a very hectic cruise, but we did what we intended to do and did take the Alaska cruise on the Golden in Aug 2009. We are going on the Sapphire in May for the one night cruise from Vancouver to Seattle.

That's good to know. My wife is close to Elite and we've been half heartedly keeping an eye on a one night and a 3 night set in May. Quite expensive, but we can afford to wait until the last minute, so we'll keep watching the prices and who knows?

A friend and I did 3 one day cruises last September, catching a bus back to Seattle twice. Yes, it was tiring and certainly not typical cruising but it was a relatively inexspensive way to rack up 6 cruises each. We left our husbands at home and each had our own room. As I recall the cruises were about $130 each.

We're in our late fifties and did not find the cruises to be too rowdy...we did however go to bed around 11:00.

I'm now elite so won't need to do it again....but my friend will definitely give it another go. We had a great adventure!

to get to ELITE fast. But Miami from CLE is a very long drive for one person. So we look at Boston or NYC to do a few. 4 more steps to Elite for us with 11 cruises. But all we see is Miami or West Coast. Flying is just too expensive for us.

 

So great to have such enjoyable people on Princess that were on NCL or RCCL & Celebrity. All charge for wine or champagne ($15 a bottle) and sell what a grocer has for $20 GOING FOR $40. So we are back to Princess.

We will miss 2 nights in the MDR with Formal, since we are carryon & filled for a week at sea. Gave my & my husbands dress clothes to Goodwill since we do not need it in Vegas or any vacation place including home in CLE. Jeans are allowed a many places, tho we wear Dockers & Chic. Jeans for me is for gardening, painting or staining furniture.

If you spend the extra money and book a full suite you will get your 3 credit as a single passenger ..might be worth the money to not have to get to another cruise for one more credit.. then your next trip you will be elite .. if you go on another trip you won't get your elite status until you finish that trip!

Actually 2 credits per cruise so if you book this as 2 seperate cruises it would be 4 credits.
