TheDINGOateMyBaybay! Posted April 4, 2010 #127 Share Posted April 4, 2010 airplanes are also called she's. someone should google it. i'm not in the mood. What I have a problem with is calling sea going vessels, "She". They are not "She's". They are "It's". And I don't understand why they call it a "sailing". These vessels don't have sails. We go on "cruises", not "sailings" on these vessels.

TheDINGOateMyBaybay! Posted April 4, 2010 #131 Share Posted April 4, 2010 I resemble that remark. The only time I am on time is for work and to cruise. Precisely.

Hap Posted April 8, 2010 #134 Share Posted April 8, 2010 I was in the Marines and toured a navy aircraft carrier in San Diego. I love calling it a "nice boat" because it ticked off all the sailers. LOL!!!

LOL!!! It must have really ticked you off when they stopped writing your checks! :p Ouch. I had to throw that zinger out there - I'm not a military man, I just don't like letting nice opportunities pass me.
Sailor2Cruiser Posted April 9, 2010 #136 Share Posted April 9, 2010 Don't you mean "boatmates"? I like it! What I have a problem with is calling sea going vessels, "She". They are not "She's". They are "It's". And I don't understand why they call it a "sailing". These vessels don't have sails. We go on "cruises", not "sailings" on these vessels. Now you're opening a whole 'nuther can of worms. I won't get into ALL the comments of why they are referred to in the feminine, but the bottom line is a sailor puts a lot of love and attention into making sure his ship/boat/vessel stays afloat and remains a thing of beauty.
