NCTribeFan Posted September 9, 2013 Author #876 Share Posted September 9, 2013 I like sailing in May. Most kids are still in school. When DD still sailed with me while in college, I'd book for right after she finished finals in May and December. It seemed like there were a whole lot of little kids last week. I was kind of surprised until I thought about it and realized that the little ones (not yet in school) would be available to cruise with parent(s) who had a Monday holiday. It just seemed there were a lot of crying kids around. :(
bobsfamily Posted September 9, 2013 #877 Share Posted September 9, 2013 I was thinking about the LSC sailing. Are there a lot of kids during the May months? They should still be in school right? My next one I should be bringing the Andrew, my oldest child Jacob who will be 21 (lord help us) and his girlfriend. Early May is fine, the closer you get to Memorial Day the more "students" sailing... the last week/Memorial Day can be filled with HS seniors on a senior trip. May 6th should be after Spring break and before school is out. NC, it did seem to be a lot of wee ones with us... LD might be the reason. OMG 21! We have one turning that age next March and she wants to go also... Yikes! Not sure we can swing that (or want to!).

LUVMYGSDOG Posted September 9, 2013 #879 Share Posted September 9, 2013 My next one I should be bringing the Andrew, my oldest child Jacob who will be 21 (lord help us) and his girlfriend. We took my DS21 and his girlfriend on the Fantasy last April for his 21st b-day. I had a large, large talk with him about "how to act" before we left and they both did great! Bar total was a little extreme but so was mine and DH so I can't say much! We ended up having a great time with them! Kim
NCTribeFan Posted September 9, 2013 Author #880 Share Posted September 9, 2013 I drink more than my DD. She often would leave me in a lounge or the casino and head to bed. What a lightweight! :p They didn't even drink that much last October on their honeymoon, and I was paying for it! My friend and I drank way more wine at dinner. And our open bar Roll Call. And the PG party. :o Yeah, that May 6th sailing is looking pretty good right now! I almost booked one of the Pride repo cruises while onboard (12/8/14; 8 nights San Juan - Tampa). I probably should've jumped on one of the 1As since there are so few. I may book it on Conquest if one is still available. Will be tough on my credit card, though. Onboard spending for 8 nights just before the holidays and adding that 200% solo deposit would be painful right then. But hey! It's only money, right? ;)
JDinGA Posted September 10, 2013 #881 Share Posted September 10, 2013 Ok I have question for the cruising veterans. When they offer the booking for future cruises while onboard, is it really a much better deal, or just hype? I am going on Fantasy on the 26th with an eye on another cruise somewhere next year. NCTribeFan Posted September 10, 2013 Author #882 Share Posted September 10, 2013 The Future Cruise Desk offers exactly the same thing as you can book online or through Carnival or anywhere else. The only advantage is the OBC you'll get on whatever cruise you book. Do your research before you go. I had and the prices he gave me were exactly what I'd seen at home before I left. But I always know what I want before I book. I call my PVP and give him the date, the rate, and the cabin. I could book myself but want him to get the credit. So if you're thinking of booking something, do your research and at least know the ship and date you're thinking about or you could spend an hour standing there (and who wants to spend their cruise time standing in line and/or talking to a salesman?). Stevo24 Posted September 10, 2013 #883 Share Posted September 10, 2013 Sorry if this has been covered previously. What kind of music can I expect on the deck out by the pool on the Fantasy? Thanks

mamawsnest Posted September 10, 2013 #885 Share Posted September 10, 2013 Have been on the Fantasy several times, and Risa is my favorite CD. We have had her on the Celebration and the Fantasy.... We are hoping to go on the Nov. 2 7 night trip.... Glad to hear the "old Girl" is still holding up...she may be the oldest ship in the fleet, but still my favorite. I love the small ships. Come join us on the roll call! We are the crazy bunch. Hope you can join us.:D
NCTribeFan Posted September 10, 2013 Author #886 Share Posted September 10, 2013 Sorry if this has been covered previously. What kind of music can I expect on the deck out by the pool on the Fantasy? Thanks I avoid the pool area as much as humanly possible. But in the rare times I strolled through (or was in line to get The World's Best Hot Dogs), I heard a variety, all played at about double the volume needed for everyone on the ship to hear. :( I think I read recently that the Fantasy class ships don't have a cruise planner/desk. Will be on her for the first time in January, can't wait. I wasn't sure there was one on Fantasy, either. But it is at the same desk as the Carnival Mastercard signup - on Promenade, just toward the stern from the casino bar, before you get to the coffee shop, across from the shopping desk. It's basically under the little stairway that leads to the Lido pool. One of the S&S kiosks is right there, too. If you look at the deck plans for Promenade, you'll see the little "secret" stairwell. It's right there. If I was tech-savvy enough, I'd cut and paste that section of the deck plan for you. But I'm not. :o
JDinGA Posted September 10, 2013 #887 Share Posted September 10, 2013 Thanks for the response. I probably will not bother with any bookings while onboard. Now that I am convinced in what I suspected, namely really not a better deal. I am not much of an impulse shopper. I am the guy that checks the site every day for 2 months to watch for the bottom of the price drops. In other words a cheapskate! :-) 2 weeks countdown. bobsfamily Posted September 10, 2013 #888 Share Posted September 10, 2013 Sorry if this has been covered previously. What kind of music can I expect on the deck out by the pool on the Fantasy? Thanks The music is "DJ" driven, is a mix at about "my ears are bleeding" level and is geared more toward the 20-30 crowd. Some good music, still to loud, mostly stuff that I do not care for... No steel band, not even for sailaway... sad
NCTribeFan Posted September 11, 2013 Author #889 Share Posted September 11, 2013 See, I don't miss the steel/reggae bands. In all my cruises, I never heard one that I thought was decent. I'd rather have canned music than bad live music. I simply cannot tolerate poorly sung/performed music. Probably why I'm not a karaoke fan. :p But especially when you're supposed to be a professional musician. If you can't sing on key, you shouldn't be singing. Period. JD - if you're planning to book and already know what you want, if you book onboard you won't get a better price but you'll at least get the OBC. And the booking can still be assigned to your PVP so (s)he will get credit or to any TA you use.
Palmetto Pilot Posted September 11, 2013 #890 Share Posted September 11, 2013 Just booked my first carnival cruise in years. Doing the Fantasy out of CHS... Obviously... Booked a aft facing ocean view on Main deck. How are those rooms?
JDinGA Posted September 11, 2013 #891 Share Posted September 11, 2013 OK I am feeling like a newb for asking, but how does the OBC work in this case? I have not made a final decision yet, was planning on checking the 7 day weather forecast leading up to departure, and had an understanding that I could probably either join in at the dock or take a cab for Pat and Diane's at the last minute? I have a wife recovering from a knee replacement, and a 2 year old, so want to be flexible. Honestly this is my 3rd time in the Bahamas and we would be just as happy to stay on the ship during port? Ally22 Posted September 12, 2013 #892 Share Posted September 12, 2013 (edited) NCTribe - you posted that the past guest party was moved to Freeport day, do you remember if it was during the afternoon or was it in the evening? We had the most awesome appetizers on the Breeze during the PG party and am looking forward to it! Thanks! I saw you put afternoon in your post! Good thing I reread it...Now I have to decide if I want to cut Freeport short...can't miss out on all the free drinks :) Edited September 12, 2013 by Ally22 adding
NCTribeFan Posted September 12, 2013 Author #893 Share Posted September 12, 2013 JD: I never, ever just stay on the ship. I cruise to get to foreign places (even if it is "only" Nassau and Freeport). So I always get off the ship and at least wander around and make some attempt to interact with locals. Ally: Yes, the PG party was at 4 on Freeport afternoon. All-aboard was at 4:30 anyway, so even if you do an excursion, you'll probably be back in plenty of time. Pilot: I've read that there can be a lot of vibration back there. I was in E183 in May, so was pretty far aft. We had a really rough first night and I could hear my wine bottle sliding back and forth across the desk! You'll feel movement if it's rough, and you'll probably also feel lots of vibration when docking. I imagine the view is nice (although those windows do get rather coated in salt spray). It was so calm last week that there was virtually no wake, even. Your mileage may vary! ;)
All4fun&fun4all Posted September 12, 2013 #894 Share Posted September 12, 2013 Just booked my first carnival cruise in years. Doing the Fantasy out of CHS... Obviously... Booked a aft facing ocean view on Main deck. How are those rooms? I had aft facing OV on Upper deck (U-239). It was really neat seeing the wake out of the window but there was a great deal of vibration pulling into ports. Especially Nassau where we backed in. I woke up and sat on the window ledge and took a video of us backing in. It was dark but neat to watch. The movement was different than when we stay in porthole rooms. Almost like a downward pressure. I would book the room again but it wouldn't be my first choice. There was also a support pole right behind the door which made it so that the door wouldn't swing all the way open.
Palmetto Pilot Posted September 12, 2013 #895 Share Posted September 12, 2013 That's for the replies... I suppose we can always switch rooms before sailing. I'm not prone to motion sickness at all but I am a bit concerned about noise and vibration. Regardless, it's a quick get away from my home port. Can't wait. It's just so easy to hop in a cab and then hop onboard. I KNEW I was in trouble when I saw that Fantasy was coming here as a home port. I was right. 3 sailings now from home and planning on another next spring!
Palmetto Pilot Posted September 13, 2013 #897 Share Posted September 13, 2013 It is nice to have a regular cruise ship in Charleston, admittedly my previous trips on carnival have been subpar. Leaving from Charleston and the price are the two reasons we are taking this cruise. A nice 5day get away with another couple, i'm actually really looking forward to trying carnival again. After looking at pictures of the stern of the Fantasy I noticed that M265 is right above some machinery spaces. I might just try to upgrade to a different room. NCTribeFan Posted September 13, 2013 Author #899 Share Posted September 13, 2013 It was back a couple of pages... http://ships.carnivalentertainment.com/ships/view-ship/id/34 OK, folks. I have a complaint. I posted in my last two review threads that I enjoyed the two new production shows, but I have an issue with The Brits. Queen, and especially "Crazy Little Thing Called Love," should NOT be part of the show. Queen wasn't around until the early 70s and this song did not come out until 1980! Come on, now! That's YEARS past the British Invasion!! I know I'm being picky, but it bugs me. I'm going to write to John Heald and complain. :p Just kidding. But it does bother me a little. The 60s were my formative years and both the British Invasion music and Motown had a profound affect on me. If you're doing a show about a certain era, then the music should be from that era! There were plenty of groups and songs that could've been included. Right. Mini-rant over. ;)
