I hope that Philip does not leave the Quest before we sail on July 24th. He is the best!!! In all our travels, we have never encountered anyone in the hospitality industry that measures up to him. We met him on the Journey last June during Azamara's initial sailing to Iceland. We could never figure out when the man slept as he was always up and about. He has such a wonderfully sincere and caring demeanor.

Panic not!!! Philip was still on the Quest for the cruise that ended 24 July, he said he would be aboard for our next Quest cruise in mid-March 2011. (I think he will take a month or 2 off sometime between now & then.)

  • 2 weeks later...

Just got off the Journey last Thursday in CPH and there are some changes:

Captain Johannes Tysse is fortunately still there - he was last with Seadream and he's a great asset for AZ - he's a wonderful man, always visible with a great sense of humour - he spent almost an hour with us at he CC party and answered all questions.

Heike went on vacation when we boarded and is now replaced by Scott Daniels - he's since 2008 with AZ but only now took the role of hotel director.

He's a Chicago native and also speaks French and Spanish - he also is always very helpful

Eric De Gray, unfortunately for those sailing now, went off when we left and will be away for about 2 months. He was on our cruise not only a CD but also a fantastic singer/entertainer with his own show productions - he's great (and not only by his height) !!

Tony Markey is now taking his place

So the update as from August 5th is:

Captain: Johannes Tysse

Hotel director: Scott Daniels

Cruise Director: Tony Markey

Please keep this list updated

If I am not mistaken, Scott was the Food/Bev Manager. He was always visible and very nice.

Sorry but for sure Scott was promoted to Hotel Director as from this cruise - check the daily Pursuits

Captain: Leif Karlson

Hotel Director: Philip Herbert - the best in the business IMO

Cruise Director: Russ Thomas Grieve - very talented & likable

Guest Relations Mgr: Liesl Smit - runs an excellent guest relations

Financial Controller: Takis Chliaras - as nice as he is handsome

Loyalty Mgr: Farieda Watson - what a sweatheart!

Food & Bev Mgr: Rudolf Lainer - an entertaining Austrian

Human Resources Mgr: Vicky Arledge - big Texan heart

Environmental Officer - Michelle Smith

Chief Engineer - Christos Tasioulopoulos

Staff Captain - Panos Panagopoulos

Development Mgr - Kevin

Housekeeping Mgr - Natasha (?)

Note that the "titles" these folks have are secondary to their primary job, that of ensuring their guests have the best ever cruise. It is not just the HD or CD's jobs, they all take ownership and step in where ever and when ever is necessary.

From the Captain down, Journey or Quest, all the AZ cruises I have been on they are all brilliant.

Looking forward to the 20th September on the Quest.
