bunduo Posted January 30, 2005 #1 Share Posted January 30, 2005 I am little hesitant to book with Captain Larry because I'm afraid it will be a similar experience to spending a day in Glacier Bay. How similar are these two adventures?
Host Caroline Posted January 30, 2005 #2 Share Posted January 30, 2005 Not at all... Capt Larry is a "whale watching" excursion and you get views of the Glacier but the area you are sailing in is Auke Bay and waters surrounding islands near Juneau.. It's narrated, they are great at seeking out the whales and it's a totally enjoyable cruise.. Glacier Bay is "glaciers".. how many and which ones depending on what "arm" of the bay you sail into.. You see puffins, occasional seals in the Bay, occasionally a distant view of a bear on shore (we've seen one on three days there) and occasionally there are whales feeding sighted in waters at the bay's entrance but it's nothing similar!! And the whales there are harder to spot... you have to been on deck with your binoculars and know what you are looking for. On our first visit there a pod was feeding shoreside as we came out of the Bay and the Crown Princess basically stayed there for 20-30 minutes to give everyone a chance to see them! But those occurrences are few and far between..
bunduo Posted January 30, 2005 Author #3 Share Posted January 30, 2005 Thanks Caroline. That decides it. I'm going to get in contact with Orca Enterprises this week. Thanks again!
Rare Coral Posted January 30, 2005 #4 Share Posted January 30, 2005 I agree, they are 2 entirely different experiences. While at Glacier Bay, the only whales I saw were with binoculars. With Captain Larry - they are close up and we always saw tons of them.
