What happens when one passenger in a cabin cancels?

It depends on when and why, but generally, if the second person cancels the first person is re-fared at the single rate, which is essentially double the cost. If before final payment, you can both cancel at no penalty. Or you can change the name of the other person up to about 3-5 days before the cruise, there may be a change fee after final payment, about $50. LBNL, if the 2nd person cancels for a covered reason, AND you both have insurance, then the remaining person's new fare increase is covered by your insurance.

What happens when one of two passengers in a cabin cancels their trip? Does the other passenger have to pay more? Can someone else go in that persons place at the same rate? What to do?????

It also depends on which cruiseline and what fare code you used in booking. For instance, if you are cruising Carnival and booked under Early Saver, it is a whole different kettle of fish. You need to be more specific, and ask on the board for the particular cruise line you are using. EM

If the person cancels after you make final payment and after the cut off date for partial refund (which is usually 14 days before the cruise), the cruise line doesn't care who doesn't show up. They have their money and you'll get a cabin to yourself. Hopefully the canceling person has insurance and can get their fare back. If it's before final payment, that person can cancel with no penalty, but if you still want to cruise, you'll get re-fared with the single supplement, usually at 200%. If you both cancel before final payment, no one loses money, unless you booked with an agency that has a cancellation fee. If the person cancels after final payment, but before the 100% no money return time, they will get a partial refund from the cruise line, and you'll have to pay the single supplement if you decide to still cruise.

The cancelling passenger loses $50, and the rest of the deposit is held for up to two years to be used on a future cruise. And you wil get refared as a single. You cannot change a name and add a different passenger to an Early Saver booking. EM
