Jenn24101 Posted May 24, 2010 #1 Share Posted May 24, 2010 I'm pretty new to cruising, and have never sailed Carnival before. Right now we are booked in an 8A cabin on the Dream, 6271 (I think)...but hearing some complaints about being so close to the promenade deck, I'm thinking about upgrading to an 8B cabin and going to the 7th deck. These cabins are pretty far back, and also above what would be noisy stuff on deck 5, but I'm thinking that probably would not be an issue two decks up, or would it? I don't mind some noise if I'm out on the balcony, but I want to be able to sleep if the balcony door is closed, is it pretty quiet in those rooms? We are booked early saver, is there some sort of fee in doing this, and also, we have $140 OBC from previous drops, and upgrading would cost $40, I'm assuming they just take it out of that? And how do I do it? Can it be done online somehow or do I need to call? Finally, will this decrease our chances of further price drops? I'm not sure if there are certain categories that tend to sell out first.... Sorry for all of the probably obvious questions, I have learned so much from reading these boards, but just a little confused about the upgrading thing...and do you think it is worth doing the upgrade? I've read some people were not bothered by being on Deck 6, and we really aren't that picky....honestly on our last cruise we had a balcony (princess) and we had nosy neighbors peering around all the time, so it wasn't private at all anyway....I assume the dividers are similar on the Dream. momjen Posted May 24, 2010 #2 Share Posted May 24, 2010 We took this upgrade for our Dream cruise next month. We were on Deck 6 too and they moved us up to Deck 9. It was extra, didn't take it out of our OBC. They charged it to our credit card since we are already paid in full. We felt for only $40 more it was worth the upgrade. firefly333 Posted May 24, 2010 #3 Share Posted May 24, 2010 Iv been mid deck on deck 6 and it was quiet. Depends on where you are. Are you over the lounge in the back?? Much of deck 6 is great, but you might want to move away from the lounge if thats what you picked. Iv also been on the other side above the casino and it was quiet, so Iv been on deck 6 twice and both were quiet locations. I dont know that you can talk them into paying for the upgrade out of your OBC or not since you didnt do it at the time. Good luck. Id look above and below you. We thought it was convenient to be able to run down the steps to promenade.

I think we are above the shops on deck 6.....did you find people were looking into your balcony from the promenade, or was it basically a non-issue? Unless you go all the way to the top deck of balconys, there will always be someone above you. Very few people are going to lean out enough to see into the balconys below them on a consistent basis. Going up one deck or two wouldnt buy you anything.. and you do NOT want to be below the pool. The shops close by 11 pm, so you wouldnt hear anything from them. jules815 Posted May 24, 2010 #6 Share Posted May 24, 2010 Have you thought about a Cove balcony? They're supposed to be very private.
S.S.Oceanlover Posted May 24, 2010 #7 Share Posted May 24, 2010 What time do the hot tubs close? Looks like you'll be right above the hot tubs. You do have a good location near the elevators though. Have you thought about a Cove balcony? They're supposed to be very private. I don't think they can downgrade since they are ES. Bill

I just joined Cruise Critic today, I am also from Northwest IN (Zionsville, IN) and am on the same date, cruise and deck that you are with my family.. It is a small world! We can't downgrade and my husband was not interested in the cove ones anyway.....they do seem cool though!

I thought we were some distance from the hot tubs :( did i look at it wrong? I picked that area bc i figured the shops would be a lot quieter than being over a lounge or something and thought the hot tubs were further back on the ship. We have another one booked on the dream for November's cruise

I was looking at the deck plans and the Dream has those cantilever hot tubs off the side of the ship on Promenade deck. If you are in 6271 they look like they would be in close proximity to your cabin. I think that with the cabins right there they'd close early so as not to disturb anyone. All things considered it doesn't seem to be a bad cabin location. Bill

Bill I guess it really doesn't matter to us as long as the close at some point...we will be out late....we have anytime dining and will probably eat later, plus watch later shows....and I suppose if people want to stare at us on our balcony from the hot tub they can, we'll still do whatever we please! :D

We've booked in balconies before where people told us they were terrible and we have had no problems. Yours aren't bad from the get go so you should be in heaven. Hope you have a GREAT cruise.:) Bill
