marving9999 Posted May 30, 2010 #1 Share Posted May 30, 2010 Has anyone cruised on Royal Caribbean Explorer of the Seas in December or in the winter months before. We are considering the Explorer of the Seas next December, 2010. It is a 9 day cruise to the caribbean. It includes two days at sea in the beginning and the end of the cruise. I know that when we leave Cape Liberty New Jersey it will be cold outside. Can anyone tell me how long it takes before the outside weather warms up. Does it take the full two days at sea before it is relatively warm outside or it is a shorter time period. We want to know prior to booking this trip whether the 4 sea days are going to be indoor days or outdoor days.
Bothofus Posted May 30, 2010 #2 Share Posted May 30, 2010 DH and I sailed from Bayonne on the Explorer in January 09. By the afternoon of the second day (first sea day) we were in weather that was warm enough to go out on deck without a coat. It was still 'cool', but not cold. We were about as far south as South Carolina. It wasn't bad. I'd do it again, as I love sea days. I loved not having the expense of a flight to Florida. I loved that the cost of the 9-day cruise was comparable to a 7-night out of Florida. Hope you have a great time :) Rachel
sddsddean Posted May 30, 2010 #3 Share Posted May 30, 2010 We did a b2b on the Ex 11th Dec '09 - 3rd Jan '10. Both times the weather was OK by the 2nd full sea day (although the kids were in the pool the first day!). You just have to wary of the odd storm! On our last sea day of the first cruise (20th Dec) we had a force 9 gale and 30-40 foot seas (12" of snow dumped on NY and all 3 main airports closed...you might remember it). Doesn't bother me, but my wife went to bed about 5.30pm..as did lots of others. The ship was like the Marie Celeste and some of the crew (wait staff etc) didn't look too well. For the farewell show in the theatre only about 100 people turned up and I still marvel at how the band managed to perform! So, there's nothing wrong with cruising winter time as long as you know what might happen. Simon
patseacruiser Posted May 30, 2010 #4 Share Posted May 30, 2010 Have cruised the Explorer in December, January and February and by the afternoon of the 2nd sea day it will be much warmer. I have sat in the solarium and been comfortable enough. I usually have a sweat suit for the first and last cold days. I do my shopping on the promenade, sit at Seattle's Best and people watch, casino slot tournaments, read in the solarium, etc. on those 2 days.
