jayman31 Posted June 8, 2010 #1 Share Posted June 8, 2010 I currently have a cruise booked and now I see Carnival is offering a promotion that gives you $160 onboard credit. It does say for new bookings only......just curious if anyone has tried and if so were you successful in cancelling and rebooking to get this type of credit? I have only paid the deposit. I haven't heard from my TA regarding this special, my TA says that if any price drops come up that I would be notified and would get the new price up until final payment is due. I have sent an email but no response, just curious to know other peoples experience with this. Would gladly love this promotion, will cover the tips and then an extra $20 to play at the casino :)
serene56 Posted June 8, 2010 #2 Share Posted June 8, 2010 what is the price you paid vs the price to get with OBC? I see my price went up over 170pp so it wouldnt pay for me to cancel. PLUS-- make sure of your cancellation policy
luckey1 Posted June 8, 2010 #3 Share Posted June 8, 2010 If you check the prices they have jacked up the price on the cruise with the obc special so it's actually more than most other prices (early booking, past guest, etc.) NO DEAL
jayman31 Posted June 8, 2010 Author #4 Share Posted June 8, 2010 I have a suite booked and the rate is the same, also I am not booked early saver, no penalties if I was to cancel, just curious if they track names, and if you are currently booked, then cancel to rebook would they not give you the promotion? I would find it hard to believe they would actually track this type of thing, but you never know!!
CarnivalFan2 Posted June 8, 2010 #5 Share Posted June 8, 2010 I called Carnival & asked for an OBC, in light of this special. No go :(. New bookings only.
carnivalcanuck Posted June 8, 2010 #6 Share Posted June 8, 2010 I called Carnival & asked for an OBC, in light of this special. No go :(.New bookings only. I tried as well, with the same result :( On a happier note though, I am still going to be on a cruise in October:)

I have never seen them offer OBC and not raise the cruise price. The old CCL shell game at work yet again. A slap in the face to consumers which is becoming all too common. firefly333 Posted June 8, 2010 #8 Share Posted June 8, 2010 I called Carnival & asked for an OBC, in light of this special. No go :(.New bookings only. Did you offer to pay the price of the rate for this special ...or you just asked for the OBC?? The ones I saw the rate was so jacked up, it wouldnt pay. PS is it $160 per CABIN ...or per person..I thought it was per CABIN .. and the rates were jacked up at least $80 to get it.

But since you didn't book ES, it sounds like it might benefit you "if" they let you do it. Maybe someone else will come along with the answer. Either way, let us know what you find out. Do you have a PVP you can call and ask?

I think if folks would look at the rates to book with the OBC, they wouldnt be so quick to want it. I agree with you.
Ken076 Posted June 9, 2010 #12 Share Posted June 9, 2010 Up To $160 per cabin as fire sez. The cheaper the cruisefare, the less cashback per cabin. I checked several cruises and the fares are jacked-up by the amount of the cashback. ken
CruiseinNJ Posted June 9, 2010 #13 Share Posted June 9, 2010 I was a week prior to final payment - not early saver. My PVP worked with me. I paid $120 more, got a 3 category cabin upgrade, and $160 OBC. My bottom line is a $40 savings for a 3 category upgrade. So yes it does work
jayman31 Posted June 11, 2010 Author #14 Share Posted June 11, 2010 We were able to get this promotion with out cancelling and rebooking. I got an email from my TA this morning and also checked the Carnival site to ensure it was there. I know some have mentioned that the price is different to get this promotion.....in our case there was no price change, we are booked in a suite, also we only booked the cruise approximately two weeks ago. No penalty and $160 now pays the tips and some extra casino money coming my way.

illinoismomof4 Posted June 11, 2010 #16 Share Posted June 11, 2010 Funselect, so if I canceled before final payment date I lost no money, I also paid the cruise in full. I called yesterday because the 3 and 4 passenger went down 70.00 each. At first they said no i couldn't do it. So I told them to cancel my cruise and send my money back. She told me to hang on and came back and said what we are going to do is cancel and rebook same room and such. I got the 160.00 on board credit and they will be sending me a refund check of the 140.00 so I saved 300.
topspin1267 Posted June 11, 2010 #17 Share Posted June 11, 2010 Ours would be $170 pp more so +$340 to get $160 in OBC . Think I'll keep my rate :)
LemurCat Posted June 11, 2010 #18 Share Posted June 11, 2010 Here's the thing ... it's NOT an OBC. It's not being advertised as an OBC either. It's a CASH BACK special, which means they're basically just giving you back the money you already paid.

firefly333 Posted June 11, 2010 #23 Share Posted June 11, 2010 Then I guess you're one of the people it actually worked out for. Consider yourself lucky. Well, if you are not comparing it to ES rates, the prices probably dont look so bad. Obviously, if they could cancel and rebook, they werent ES. Its just us ES folks who the price doesnt work out for that I have seen. Notice the folks saying they change to it ...not a one states they are booked ES. Notice the folks saying they change to it ...not a one states they are booked ES. It wasn't as I stated the 3 and 4th person went down and 1&2 stayed the same as I had originally booked. So it was worth the chance and rebook to get the difference so when the bottom line comes out I saved 300.00 with the OBC and the 140.00 refund. Like I said I booked fun select. So I wouldnt loose any money to do this because I was told I could do any changes until the final payment date. Which is creeping up here soon . Yep, I got a final payment creeping up soon too, June 26th. I keep hoping for a rate drop, right now the cheapest price is $100 pp more than I paid and only one unbooked cabin in my category :(
