What does this mean?

So glad it worked out for you. You gotta love Cruise Critic--just ask and someone will be able to help. I had a cabin under the Lido deck before and never again. That was a GTY with a group, but I have since learned better! Carnival still should have contacted your TA first to give you a choice of cabins if they needed your triple.

You're right...what they should do and what they do is so not the same.....

Years ago, when we booked GTY....it was our 3rd or 4th cruise with Carnival....my husband had just had a hip replacement....Carnival knew this because we contacted them for special equipment needed and to get an elevator escort during muster......and we were put above a lounge....

Our TA was suprised because she said she never encountered that with past cruisers (and one who was dealing with a handicap) but we all learned.....

The TA was contacted without much on an explanation...just the new cabin....today when she called she got the explanation and the cabin we picked....

Carnival seemed to have taken the 'human factor' out of their end....

I still don't get the designations.....we are booked on The Glory for a trip to Canada....we booked an 8B....the TA just emailed us that Carnival changed us to an 8D...

What does that mean?? Am I happy??

We are Platinum Cruisers and generally love Carnival, but at times Carnival does things which I do not really understand. On one cruise Carnival changed our cabin to one with a much less desirable location. They told us of the change at the time we were checking in at the cruise port. Carnival initially told us that it was a reward in that we were frequent cruisers, but once we began to ask questions there demenor changed and they told us that they had the right to change our cabin at any time.

After a rather "heated" discussion they agreed to give us our cabin back, althought the supervisor was quite upset that he had to back down.

Despite the general statement that a later number in the alphabet is better, and the higher on the ship the better, everything is location. Being under the Lido deck can result in a very nosiy cabin. While this may not bother some people, it would have definietly ruined our vacation.

Price was not in question. It is a matter of Carnival finding that your current room may be easier to sell than one under the Lido Deck.

I would strongly suggest that you question any upgrade to determine if it is in the location that you really want.

Hope everything works out.
