Ladies, what kind of purse do you use when cruising?

Recommended Posts

We use something called a Bracelet Mate. Its is a wallet that has beads for straps and you wear it on your wrist as a bracelet. The wallet part goes towards the inside towards your body and the beads goes on the top so it looks like you are wearing a beaded bracelet. It holds our sea-pass card, driver's license, one or two credit cards and folding money. I even use it when I am at home and need to run short trips to the grocery store, pharmacy, etc.

Here is a photo of it:

I have a Coach swingpack that goes across your body. It's perfect for traveling, going out at night, and just running to the store. It fights camera, cell, money, passport, lipgloss, and you're good to go. I got mine at the outlet.

I have a small backpack from Sherpani that is the best bag I have ever owned for traveling by far. Unfortunately I don't think they don't make it any more. I just did a search online and I couldn't find it. Even though it is a backpack it is really small. It holds my book, my camera, my iPod, my sunglasses. What I really like is that is keeps my hands free when trying to manage my luggage. Onboard I use a clutch. Or most of the time I just make my DH hold the seapass and the money for the casino.:D

Just a warning, make sure the purse doesn't have magnets. I got a small "travel" purse with a shoulder strap and slots for my ID, Sea Pass, and credit card and a tiny area for cosmetics, etc. The top folds over and has magnets to hold it shut. The magnets cleared my Sea Pass and I couldn't get in my room. My credit cards weren't affected, but the lady who helped me at Guest Relations said the magnetic purses always ruin the Sea Passes.

Purse stays at home. Just have a huge beach bag for necessities while embarking. Then it stays in the closet until we go ashore. My drivers license and pastport go in the RCCL pouch I was given at an M&M long ago that goes around my neck and then in the safe and my set sail pass goes on a accordian key ring which I keep on my arm. Don't worry about gloss or lipstick while on a cruise. I am carefree.......don't carry a thing

We leave on FOS June 20th. I would like to find a new purse that will work at the airport, on the ship, and in the ports. I know I want a shoulder strap. I'd also like an outer pocket for sunglasses and my cell. I'd also like an inner zip pocket. I'd really like to take 1 purse that will go with everything I wear. Is that even possible? Do you take a purse with you into ports? I probably won't take one into Coco Cay but I might into St. Thomas and St. Martin. Do you carry a purse around with you on the ship?

I would love any advice! If you have something you love, please suggest it and maybe even post a picture! Thank you!

As others have mentioned, I use a backpack for the ports, so I can carry my towel, sun screen, snorkel gear, etc. However, for around the ship, I got this GREAT travel wallet last year that I just loved. OK, I look dorky wearing it in photos, but it was SO handy. It was large enough to hold my digital camera, Sea Pass card, cash, ID and lip stick. Kept everything I needed very handy. It had a long, adjustable strap so it could be worn over the shoulder. I plan to use it on all my future cruises.

When I fly I use a plain black tote bag with a zipper on the top. I either take this or a RCCL tote bag on shore with me. All money, id, and credit cards go in a neck purse that either DH or I wear around our neck under our clothes.

The tote bag holds the water bottle on the way out, and all the souvenirs on the way back in!!!

I second Vera Bradley has some cute stuff I like the style called the "hipster" but they make all kinds of styles and fun colors-lightweight

I also love Kipling-lightweight and waterproof great for beach/water sport type excursions . They can be pricey- but sometimes if you catch a Macys one day sale you can get a good deal.

Those would be my choices www.verabradley.com www. kipling.com for pics of bags.

I just bought the hipster for my July 3rd cruise :D lovvvvvvvvvvvve it!

I usually have a huge purse with me where ever I go - BUT NOT on a cruise ship. It's a waste. I have a northface backpack that I use as a carryon for the plane and as a beach bag/daily bag out at the ports and on the ship I either have nothing or a small purse/wristlet type bag for my camera, lip gloss and sea pass card.

I use a rather large lightweight Munro bag, with multiple zipper pockets, for the flights. It can hold water bottle, books, food, etc.

On the ship, I use my pockets, except when I have none. For formal nights or other times when I have no pockets (rare) I bring very small zipped purses - one dressy for formal nights and one black leather for days. I made the magnet mistake a few times, too. I've gotten rid of those bags.

In port (or in any city not my home) I use my pockets again, with a small zipped tote for water, tissues, maps, etc. Inside it I bring a very light bag which folds down very small to use in case my tote becomes too crowded with purchases.

My situation is a little more complicated because I normally bring photography gear. So I bring a Crumpler or a Think Tank camera bag and use a Coach wristlet to hold my wallet.

For the cruise ship, if I use anything, it's just the wristlet.

I love cruises because I don't have to carry a purse EVER!

For the airport (before I moved to Florida) I simply placednecessary ID in my carryon case along with a brush, money, etc. That ID gets placed in the safe onboard. All I carry then is my little retractable lanyard with my seapass card which I hook to my shorts and tuck in my pocket.

For shore excursions..a hip pack or a beach bag is fine.

Love to be purse free on a cruise..don't have to worry about it at all.

Deb

I totally agree with you. On the ship you just need your setsail card (in my pocket) Sunglasses I put on my head when not in use. Off the ship my DH carries a backpack. At night on ship if I need more than a lipstick I use the smallest purse as possible with a strap.

I too am a beach bag girl. I even use it as a carry-on for the plane as 1 of my 2 personal bags. I hate purses so much that mine is soooo small that it is a waste to take it with me. It barely holds my wallet, iPod & Kindle. No room for sunglasses or anything else. I need more than that on the plane and at the pool and on the beach. Lipstick goes on only once so no need to cart it to dinner with me. Most things in my purse go into the safe when I leave the room. All you need on the ship is your seapass card.

I use a tote for the flights, a beach bag for the beach days, and a small evening bag for dress up nights, but I don't take a regular daytime handbag on a cruise. If I'm just going into a port, then I put my credit card and some money in my pocket.

I was looking for the same type of bag when I took my last cruise. I found a bag by Overland Equipment that was perfect! The model is "Placer".

There is a link on their website: Overland Equipment

and another with different views on eBags

I also have a slightly larger one by Overland called Donner. It is great for longer day trips because it also holds a water bottle.

I love them both. The quality of the material is very sturdy and the zippers are very thick.

I have wristlets for during the day and shore excursions, a larger purse for to and from airport. Then small bag for for formal night. I use the wristlet on casual nights...have two sizes.

I do not carry a purse onboard (except for Formal Night); I don't feel I ever need one and if I have a pocket in my capris for my SeaPass card and lip gloss, I'm happy. In port, hubby carries a backpack for the both of us. For beach days, I bring a beach bag from home.

Come over to the Fashion Board; this might get moved there, anyway.

I am a Coach girl myself - love the wristlets I recommended in my above post. Gotta love Coach - they last forever.

mbjonsn[/left];24761789]I carry a Vera Bradley backpack. I love it! It works for everything and its easy to wash when you get back home again. :)

I am also a fan of the Vera Bradley :D But I like the totes for cruises. My cruise last month I carried a Betsy and the cruise before that I used a curvey tote.

You can't beat the functionality of a VB ... PLUS they are gorgeous (Great deals can be had on Ebay too.)

Not all of my clothes have pockets so when we're on the ship I put my Seapass card in a Kipling pouch (http://www.kipling-usa.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2993384&cp=2999464.2999530&view=all&parentPage=family&cid=1107685), a Prada slingbag (from the mkt. in St. Martin), or a clear plastic Witz Box http://www.witzsportcases.com/id-badge-holders/see-it-safe.html. I also love Kipling bags and have several of the larger ones that I use when traveling.

I always use a crossbody bag for hands free travel. There are alot of choices of style and color. If you get a solid color it may go with everything you are wearing as long as you are wearing solid color clothes or some of the bags color in the print. Last vacation all my clothes were black and white and I used a red crossbody bag. One of my favorite style is the Tignanello brand. These have a zippered pocket in the front that act as your wallet. Less room taken up in the bag with your wallet. What is also good about these bags they wear very well. They are drum died so you wont see scratches if you are hard on your bag when traveling.

If you go to TJ Maxx, Dillards or Macy you will find something that fits your style. My opinion Vera Bradley is too cutsie.

Question: Why are all you people who dont carry a purse on vacation answering this question when thats not what this person wants?

Think about it.

I hope this helps.
