Seabourne...ugh

Thank you for your civility, Keith. I am new to this board and was getting kind of afraid to post anything. People have diffenent opinions, that doesn't make them right or wrong. Only different. I have traveled on many of the cruiselines and find nothing is perfect. One must find the cruiseline that works best for them. Although we can afford it, we still look for value for the service provided. Crystal offers excellent service and food, though larger ships and less intimate experience. My one Silver Seas experience was affected by a whole new crew due to experienced help being transfered to another new ship. Perhaps OP may have had a similiar outlying experience. Of course, what one gets out of any experience depends on how you enter it.

Agree with Kizmet, plus the always wise comments by Keith and Host Dan. Not everyone agrees with your personal favorites and loves. Their views and experiences should not be trashed. Also, some are not as polished in their writing skills. Focus on what they are saying and/or trying to communicate. It sounded like the OP had one or two employees that did not do things up to 100% standards or expectations. I always like to get a honest, full range of pro and con factors to consider.

THANKS! Enjoy! Terry in Ohio

I agree with Roxburgh. There are no details from JLNug.

Besides, every one has different expectations and opinions. In my opinion the casino area is least important to me. No matter which casino you visit, the longer you stay the more money the house gets.

As usual, Keith, perfectly stated. I have always been amused on these boards by the vehemence of the reaction to anything negative regarding one's preferred cruise line.

That's why I asked which ship he was on. If it was the Odyssey, I found the dining room service quite unacceptable, to the point we

stopped dining there and in the Colonnade, opting for '2" or Room Service (which was not without it's own difficulties).

Agree somewhat Jane, although room service was the best, because Peter form Austria was on from the Spirit.

Apparently not when we were onboard. We never got the right order and the phone connection and the language skills of the staff taking the order left a great deal to be desired. The waiters who brought the food, were, however, wonderful. And we always ordered our dinner to arrive all in one, never course by course.

Dear Mona Lisa

we are due to sail on the seabourn spirit next week the 26th june from rome and am a little apprehensive in view of the mixed reviews as this is our first on seabourn-can you give us some encouragement from your own experience

many thanks

No worries...I sailed the Seabourn Spirit in October 2009, and it was great. So great that I'm dying to go back this October! I'll probably try a lesser cruise line, however, since Seabourn is definitely pricy, but it was definitely a once in a lifetime experience for me! I'd highly recommend it. They were very friendly, organized, and we had 0 issues on our 7 day cruise. Any need that we had, was always met in a timely fashion.

Don't be apprehensive, there's honestly no reason :-)

...Service in the dining room could use improvement...I will stick with Crystal

are you saying you think the dining room service is better on crystal, or that you dont like seabourn's value?

seabourn currently has ~$500/nt in asia, med, caribbean, and ~$330/nt transatlantic. (per couple) thats ridiculously good value.

if seadream has slipped to even with seabourn, ms europa and cunard queens grill may have better service.

I have yet to see any cruise line, any hotel, any restaurant, any automobile get 100% perfect reviews from everyone

its rare but definitely out there. amanresorts and four seasons are the most consistent for hotels, and (along with others) can have very high levels of service, which are not going to be matched by any cruiseline. seabourn service was definitely good though.

Which transatlantic is $330/nt per couple? I don't see one...

The transAtlantic from Malaga, Spain to Fort Lauderdale, 13 days with one stop in Madeira, on November 20, 2010, on Legend, has a lowest fare of $1,999 per person for a Category A. there was one cabin left (105) in Cat A at the beginning of this past week. That works out to $153 per day, per person, or $306 per day, per couple.

I think there are still A1 cabins available on that cruise for $2,399 per person, or $370 per couple, per day.
