Drinks for free in casino?

Once is a great while, if you smile sweetly, and the moon is in the right phase, and you are heading in the right direction, the casino manager might spring for a drink-but not often.

Ethel5 has it right. The casino managers are aware of who is gambling a lot and who is doing it more recreationally. A fellow we travel with is in the casino a lot and it is not uncommon for them to offer him an occasional free drink. But, most often even he pays!! I've only been offered a free drink once and it was when the slot machine I was playing broke down and I was waiting for it to get fixed.

We are big slot players and as such, the manager usually springs for a drink for us. The roving bar servers, as well as the slot hosts, know who is playing the longest, and with the most money. You're "rewarded" with a free drink if you sit enough and spend enough. :D

All others pay for drinks.

With the new cruise card slot machines, the casino host can tell by looking at your machine who is gambling quite a bit and who is just there with their $20 offering per day. So, very easy for them to target the players for a complimentary drink. I can't remember any cruise in the last 5 years that the casino host hasn't come over and introduced themselves to me and offered to buy me a drink. But it is normally only those that are gambling quite a bit (doesn't matter if you are winning or losing). But no matter how much you gamble, I would not expect this to happen several times in one night, it is usually a few times during the cruise. ;) Good Luck!

If you are gambling in the casino, can you get drinks for free, like in Vegas, or do you have to pay for them?

If they were, you wouldn't be able to get into the Casino for all the other passengers!! :D One can continue to hope.....;)

As someone said use your "club card"..they do pay attention to who is playing and will comp drinks...if you think you are being "ignored" it doesn't hurt to speak up.

On our last Holland Cruise I was playing for hours and was never even approached to buy a drink let alone get a freebie..I complained to the casino manager..not only was I comped drinks we were treated to dinner in the Pinnacle.:)

I have to ask...what is the casino slot card or club card ya'll are referring to? How does this work? I plan on doing some gambling while on the ship and I want to know what I should expect. I already know NOT to expect to win...LOL!

Most ships do not pay out on the slots in coins anymore. When you arrive at the casino, you insert your cruise card into a machine and set up a slot bank (this is with your cruise card but unless you charge funds to your shipboard account, it will not increase or decrease your regular shipboard account). Instructions are right on the machines and it walks you through it. Each time you play, you insert your card and it keeps track of how much you play. When you win (IF you win lol), instead of cashing out in coin, you just download the winnings to your slot bank. You can also stop playing whenever you would like and download what is left in the same way and either leave or go to a different machine and upload the amount you want from the funds you downloaded to your card.

In order to cash out, you take your card to the casino cashiers cage and they run it there and pay you in cash.

It is a very simple process and only takes a couple of minutes to learn how to do all this. Machines no longer run out of money, they don't need to be filled, you don't have to wait for pay outs (unless it is a big win of $1200 or more, for which you will receive a 1099 for tax purposes if you are a U.S. citizen). :(

The free drinks in Las Vegas are not given out so you will not go to another casino. The free drinks are given out because your inhibitions are loosened and your game playing decision making ability is affected. You will gamble and risk losing more the more inebriated you become.

That said, I did drink a little, and did play "Let It Ride" and slots on the Golden Princess all week and did not receive a single free drink on my cruise, but I didn't expect one either. We don't even get freebies in the casinos in Saint Louie...

I understand where you are coming from while gambling in the casino most land casino's will give you free (water down) drinks. But non of the cruise lines, except some of the all inclusive luxury lines give free drinks in the casino.

The only times the drinks have come often while in the casino on the ships was after I won big. The drinks were extended to myself and a family member if they were sitting near me. Obviously they were hoping I'd return my winnings, which of coarse didn't happen, but we did enjoy all those drinks! :)

The next cruise after that one while talking to the casino host on the first day I did mention my previous good luck which I highly doubted would continue to this new cruise. I suspect he did some checking because each evening shortly after arriving in the casino my favorite drink was delivered to me by one of the servers. One evening I didn't go to the casino and on the following evening not long after I arrived the casino host came over with my drink in hand to inquire where I'd been the night before as I hadn't come to the casino. Some nights a second drink would be delivered and others only the one. I wasn't playing a great deal of money so I knew it wasn't based on that cruise alone but rather on the previous one.

It varies from line to line. NCL has the most liberal policy: its casino is tied to Harrah's and Members of Harrah's Club do get free drinks.

Princess is one of the least liberal of all lines that I've heard about. Their "Princess Players' Club" does exist, but from what I know, you won't be rated unless you play for a certain amount of time and are betting more than the minimums at the tables - sorry I'm not a slot player so I can't say anything about that section. How much more? I haven't been able to find out. One person told me you must play green but that's not verified.

On our last cruise on the Coral, DW and I were comped a drink now and then without our asking for it. She certainly does NOT play green (I sometimes do at the craps table, very rarely at blackjack). But we did play a few hours every night and got to know know the server very well, drinking lots of soda and always tipping her once or twice a night.

I guess it's the luck of the draw or something. :):)

Shalom, Andy.

I've donated quite a bit to the casino's revenues during my cruises, and at times have won nicely.:D

But no matter how much time I have spent in the casino, I've never been given a free drink.

Did read in a recent Patter that they have a special ~

Suited Sevens on 25c machines or three Sevens on any Blackjack table will win you a complimentary drink of the day.

Good reason to read your Patters daily. ;)
