cabanas?

does it make sense to reserve a private cabana on nautica? if anyone has used one....can you describe the setup?

If you go to a post with last date of about June 16th on page 2 or 3 of this board with subject "Cabana & Panama" you will see pictures and info from many cruises which may help you. I have never used one myself.

Because it was something they had wondered about...

It's hardly the most contentious, if you look at other boards the most common are smuggling alcohol on board, what cabin to pick, why isn't bottled water free and why people are allowed to let their diaper wearing babies in the pool.

Don't get me wrong I'm still a bit ticked off but more about the fact that O couldn't be bothered to in some way acknowledge that they'd negatively impacted us - a "Sorry about that" would have been sufficient but there's been nothing.

Why is it that someones' very first post on CC seems to be about the cabanas on O??!!??

This must be the most contentious issue on all of the CC boards!!

I really do not understand why you need to make any comment on the posters question.....whether or not it is their first or 500th.

It is certainly NOT contentious but clearly of interest to them.

I'm sure it is of interest to the OP, but there is this little thing called search. All the OP has to do is put cabana in search and he/she will discover multiple threads and everything he could possibly want to know about cabanas on O. As you can see from the first two responses they directed the OP to other threads anyways and did not address the OP's question directly.

Absolute nonsense !!!

Virtually EVERY question on here has been asked many times and there are many people who respond in a positive manner.

So basically YOU are saying that nobody should ask a question but go and search.....

I use "search"religiously, especially when I'm new to a forum, but I doubt that Betsy would even be aware there is a search function, especially if she is new to a site. I keep insisting that she "read the screen" but she happily continues to use skills learned in the fifties to navigate her computer. I love her dearly anyway, in spite of her Ludditeism, or perhaps partly because of it. Besides, she can do many things that I cannot.

The point is, most newcomers are not aware of search, or roll call, or whatever, and it is up to more experienced users to remember their first days at a new location and offer assistance to those who ask for it.

Thank you for your replies and direction to previous threads. It was most helpful. I also appreciate your alerting me to the search feature. I'm confused as to why the one person bashed my post when ironically they are discussing dirty undies and lack of travelling companions.

now that is contentious.

here is what i was told so i do not know this firsthand: the cost varies based on the length of the cruise. there are options including the full cruise and a daily rate but the daily rate is less for "in port" days. you can reserve one via phone or online or have your TA secure the reservation for you but if you only wish to have a cabana on certain days, i was told that you have to set that up w/the concierge once you are on the ship. oh- and we were also told they were available for specific hours of the day.....not at night.

Well I have read all about the cabana etiquette but nowhere here or on the O sight do I see the cost or how to reserve one before the cruise. I hope someone might tell me. Thanks

Mark

The best thing to do is ask your TA.

If you want to reserve one for the whole cruise you can book ahead of time otherwise you have to wait till you are on board

I believe you can book them through the Spa but not sure on that.

Just ask at reception someone will point you in the right direction

What happens at night or when the cabana is not rented? Is it roped off or are "ordinary" people allowed to look out the front of the ship. We will be on the Lands of the Midnight Sun cruise so there will be 24 hours of daylight but the chill might make cabanas a rather unattractive option.

We once reserved a cabana for our full trip but after 3 days handed it back as it was very humid in that area, or at least for us.

Quite honestly, on Port days there are so many free chairs all around the Pool that we have never bothered since. Our upcoming cruise has 13 stops and basically the ship will be deserted most days.

I must take issue with your comment about " ordinary people ". We are all free to spend our hard earned £'s or $'s in any way and some prefer the Cabanas and others spend more on Cocktails.......each to their own.

You can book one through your TA although you can only reserve one for the entire cruise NOT for individual days. The cost varies depending on the length of the cruise ie. 12 day med was $500, 18 day Panama was $750. I do find it odd that you can't book a specific cabana and can only put in a request - the cabanas on either end are much larger than those in the middle.

If you wait until you are on board you can reserve individual days, a port day for $50 or a sea day for $100 subject to availability. You can book the cabana at the reception desk on embarkation day.

Seriously?

Therefore, by your definition then only those that book the least expensive cabin cat are "ordinary" people.

Actually, my question was quite serious. Can passengers (how's that) be in the cabana area in the evenings or when cabanas are not rented or is the area cordoned off.

to answer your question

There is nothing to stop passengers from going into the cabanas.....they do have a chain that goes across the cabana but you can unhook it or step over it.

If you do a search for cabanas from the main Oceania forum page you will find the photos posted of the area

You can go into the cabana, but the mattress won't be on the daybed, and I wouldn't feature sitting there for long without it.

We booked the cabana for the entire cruise from Istanbul to Athens September 2009. We were the only ones on the deck except for the one day at sea. We were assigned the end cabana on the port side. It was delightful luxory. A steward is there to meet your every need including bring tea and snacks from high tea. The lounger is fantastic. There is a fan with misting if needed. There is even a phone to call your honey when she is in the cabin. September was temperate. During the summer heat, I am not sure I would want to be there. We love to read and look at the sea, so it was perfect for us. If you like to socialize, be sure to use the pool area. We are doing Scandinavian Splendors this September. It is so port intensive and may be cool, so these Floridians will use our balcony more, not the cabanas.
