yellowbird23 Posted September 7, 2012 #1426 Share Posted September 7, 2012 Oh Pat, our prayers are with him. We are having a special service shortly and we will include him in the healing prayers Thanks so much!
3dogsrule Posted September 8, 2012 #1427 Share Posted September 8, 2012 I was talking and e-mailing back and forth to Egon up until midnight last night. I told him he should go to bed. I won't say what he responded with....as I stated, he's ornery. LMAO Pat, that's a hoot, sounds like Egon is doing pretty well! (Better watch out what you say to that man, you might find yourself in a sticky spot if/when you go visit him! lol) On another note Steve is out of his coma and off sedation. He recognized his brother but he was confused at times. So...it seems he is on the mend, but a long way to go as he has to probably have eye surgery to fix the fracture on the left side of his face. Hallelujah! Boy looking at that picture of Steve, you can see the sparkle in his eye, between that and his excellent physique, I really feel like he's going to make an amazing recovery. We'll keep those prayers coming! Karen
yellowbird23 Posted September 8, 2012 #1428 Share Posted September 8, 2012 (edited) Sorry I didn't post last night. Was exhausted. Steve is having tremendous progress. He was able to speak a lot throughout the day yesterday from what everyone is saying (nursing staff, doctors, friends etc.) My evening visit it was obvious that Steve was very exhausted from the days activities such as physical therapy and the constant badgering to perform commands. He didn't say too much. Big hurdle today is a "swallow" test. If he can tolerate this then he can start to get liquids and puree food by mouth. He keeps asking for food so I know he is ready! More today....Jesse.:D:D:D Edited September 8, 2012 by yellowbird23

yellowbird23 Posted September 10, 2012 #1433 Share Posted September 10, 2012 Pat, did Steve pass the swallow test? Karen I forgot to ask Jesse, but he was up in a recliner yesterday for a while. Late this afternoon, he was undergoing surgery to repair his left cheek bones so he was being put under again. Will keep you updated and thanks so much for asking Karen. Why don't you hop on a plane and go on Monarch with me??? Would love to meet you.
yellowbird23 Posted September 10, 2012 #1434 Share Posted September 10, 2012 Facial surgery late this afternoon for the big man. Those small cheek bones need attention before they begin to knit. Pray again for iron Steve as he has to be re-sedated and put back under. A step back after coming so far in the last few days but necessary. Ill post again with an update when I see him out of recovery. -Jesse

Why don't you hop on a plane and go on Monarch with me??? Would love to meet you. Any updates on Steve's surgery, Pat? I'm hoping that with as fast as he's progressing that he bounced right back from surgery and is doing stellar. Man I'd sure love to join you on the Monarch!! Heck I enjoyed just being in Port Canaveral/Cocoa Beach back in April for our FOS cruise, and yeah CocoCay is wonderful too! (I've never been to the Bahamas.) But alas, I've got a November 5-day planned and no way I could swing both. However...you could just as easily fly to Houston as Orlando and go with us on our Carnival adventure! This is a chicks-only cruise, leaving menfolk behind. We're already taking bets on how many tequila shots it'll take before we get up on the water slide. :D We could pick you up from Houston, we're driving there. It'd be fun!!! Any word on our onery little Egon? I occasionally pop over to the Torbay Cottages website hoping to catch a glimpse of him on the Yard Cam but I haven't seen him yet. Sounds like you'll have fun Karen and thanks for asking, but I'm lucky to be getting away on this one. As far as Egon, he has only been sending me oddball e-mails that he gets from other people. I want to "talk" to him and ask him how he's doing. Will do that tonight and get back to all. Steve had cheek surgery on Monday and a titanium plate was inserted. As of today, he has a new address at a rehab in Jacksonville. He still needs quite a bit of mental cognazant work to be done, but he is progressing nicely. Doc said he expects him to make a full recovery in under 6 months, but Jesse thinks it will be sooner than that and so do I. yellowbird23 Posted September 14, 2012 #1439 Share Posted September 14, 2012 Any news? No. He is still in contact with his generic e-mails, but nothing else. I will try again until I get a response or ask Steve.
yellowbird23 Posted September 14, 2012 #1440 Share Posted September 14, 2012 :) Dear Patty, thank you for wanting to know and to care! I am making progress, both with my speech, my walk, and remembering music - it did affect that as well- but its a agonizingly slow process. Hanging in there! I hope the accident doesn't change the way his face looks too much. Thanks for caring! I just asked for the newest update. Will let you know how he is progressing. Steve was very healthy before this and they expect him to fully recover so that is great news. It will just take time. The docs say 6 months. Jesse knows his brother well and he says half that time. That's what I'm thinking Pat, a few months max. Steve was way too buff and healthy to let this mess up his plans and future, I'm putting money on he's almost 100% by Christmas. I know we're not supposed to dwell on negative stuff and hold grudges and all that stuff, but does anyone know if the s.o.b. that pulled out in front of him will face any reprocussions? I know the most important thing is that Steve gets top notch medical care and heals, etc., but I know these medical bills are going to be awful, not to mention how Steve's life has been affected. Know we all make mistakes, but I hope that the dump truck driver is held accountable for what he did to Steve. And to keep with the theme of the thread, Pat, have you had any luck with getting to go to Canada to visit our dear Egon? Karen

And to keep with the theme of the thread, Pat, have you had any luck with getting to go to Canada to visit our dear Egon? Karen Nothing has been said about the driver. Steve is now 1-1/2 hours away from "home" in Ormond Beach. It was nothing for him to ride 45 miles on a Sunday just for fun. He racked up over 10,000 miles riding back and forth to his job in the past year and a half as well. The bike he was riding was a special order worth $2500. I am quite sure that Jesse is on the ball as far as repercussions are concerned. He has contacted an attorney. I will talk to Steve's mom this week sometime and hopefully get some more info. As for going to Canada, I have to scrap that right now. My cheapo cruise Oct. 1st will do me more good. I need a break away from dogs and hubby. This will also be the first cruise ever that I won't be gambling in the casino, as I quit back in March.

yellowbird23 Posted September 17, 2012 #1449 Share Posted September 17, 2012 He continues to improve all around, however the stroke has caused losses in ability/capability in all aspects, some more than others to be sure. Still, he is able to compose short sentences and laboriously speak them... his muscial expression has also been impacted substantially and so he needs constant pushing to play at all... hope this changes too .... cheers ~ Steve
