TIPPTONI Posted July 2, 2010 #1 Share Posted July 2, 2010 After the cruise, we want to explore NY before our flight. Carnival offers luggage express. Sounds very convenient, but we still want some feedback. What are your experiences with the service?
JohninDC Posted July 2, 2010 #2 Share Posted July 2, 2010 Best $20 I ever spent!:D They cecked us in for the flight, printed boarding passes and luggage claims; put your tags on your bags and drop them outside your door at the announced time -- the next time we saw our bags was at our home airport. No luggage to slow us down. Good luck!:)

Good luck!:) I agree completely........best money I ever spent...I've done this in Miami and Port Canaveral and it really saved my bacon one time in Miami when we were delayed until after 1:20 for debarkation and I had a 2:30 flight. Never would have made it otherwise.
JoeMissile Posted July 2, 2010 #4 Share Posted July 2, 2010 I endorse this program too! No problems. BUT! there is a big leap-of-faith as you don't see your luggage after you put it outside the cabin door until you get off the plane and are waiting at the baggage carousel. In the back of my mind I kept thinking "I wonder where my suitcase is....". Anyway I love it, never a problem.
bab Posted July 2, 2010 #5 Share Posted July 2, 2010 Where can I find information about which ports/airlines this service is available for?
JoeMissile Posted July 2, 2010 #6 Share Posted July 2, 2010 Where can I find information about which ports/airlines this service is available for? IIRC, one gets a piece of paper under the door one night listing the participating airlines and the various restrictions (e.g. your flight must be between 9:30 a.m and 4 p.m.etc). After you sign up, you get some special tag to place on your luggage. Once it's outside your door you won't see it till you get back home. Very nice. md10074 Posted July 2, 2010 #7 Share Posted July 2, 2010 We did something like this at Disney World, Magical Express, and it was great! If they offer it, I bet my husband would love to do it, especially since we have a later flight and I'm sure he's like to explore Miami a little with no luggage. Marie51 Posted July 2, 2010 #8 Share Posted July 2, 2010 I used it when we got off the Valor in Miami. Worked fine for me but my sister and BIL didn't see their luggage for 2 weeks. Mysteriously lost or misplaced or whatever you want to call it. When they got home from work one day(2 weeks after the cruise) it was sitting on the front porch. janetlm Posted July 2, 2010 #9 Share Posted July 2, 2010 It was not available for my sailing on 6/19/2010 on the Glory. I still managed to do a red double decker tour in NYC carrying my suitcase. Do not plan on this service if you are travelling from or to New york.

PROCRUISE Posted July 3, 2010 #13 Share Posted July 3, 2010 It works and costs a bit but does make your life easier on debarcation day. We tried this service. The whole way home, including the plane change in Atlanta, I kept telling myself that I just knew our luggage would not be in Columbus when we arrived. When we arrived, we were immediately greeted by the airlines luggage representative because our luggage had already ARRIVED, on an earlier flight, and was waiting on us to arrive! CarolinaDoglover3 Posted July 3, 2010 #14 Share Posted July 3, 2010 We used it on our Victory cruise last May in Puerto Rico. Best 20 bucks/person we ever spent. Would highly recommend this service.

TIPPTONI Posted July 6, 2010 Author #21 Share Posted July 6, 2010 You are right! We checked with Carnival last night--no luggage express in NY. We've decided to change the post-cruise exploration to a pre-cruise. We can drop off the bags, then walk around before debarkation. All the best to the cool travelers on Cruise Critic!! scooterdoxie Posted July 8, 2010 #25 Share Posted July 8, 2010 We used it last year on Valor out of Miami with a Delta flight home. 12 of 15 of us did it, so I was just sure some of the bags would not make it. All of our luggage made it and the 3 that did not do it, their luggage did not make it when we did. They got their bags delivered home the next day. We had an early flight-11:25 am so that was one reason we did it. It was great all the way around other than a couple things (but nothing that would keep us from doing it again) 1. I thought we would get off the ship early but no -they wait until every one that is doing the program is there before they take you off. So we sat in the lounge for like an hour. I think we were told to be there at 8:30 maybe and did not get off the ship until 9:30 or so. We still made it in plenty of time for our flight but I was really glad we did not have to do all the airport check in stuff. 2. The way they made it sound, you would have a separate escorted line at customs, but no, you had to get in line with everyone else. You just did not have to haul your luggage with you, so that was a plus. Now that I know how it works, I will not expect these 2 things in the future. I just hope we can do it this year on Freedom in FLL on JetBlue. The airline luggage fees do apply and are charged to your sail and sign. Delta overcharged us as they charged the current rate while we were under the previous rate for one bag based on our purchase date. I got it back in the end after some emails and documentation, but you might want to watch out for that.
