imsulin Posted July 3, 2010 #2 Share Posted July 3, 2010 "Birthpapers" ??? Sounds like you need to do a little research!
Alrana Eris Posted July 3, 2010 #3 Share Posted July 3, 2010 Did you mean birth certificates. "birth papers?" I would invest in passports travel.state.gov for more information. You also need state issued photo IDS like drivers license or non-drivers ID cards NJ does issue them. check your NJ DMV Alrana
jcl410 Posted July 3, 2010 #4 Share Posted July 3, 2010 We are planning a family cruse next year six adults and five teenagers. Do we need passports for Burmuda or can we use birthpapers? Are you all U.S citizens? If that is the case, then you will be OK to use a certified copy of your Birth Certificate for all going, along with a goverenment issued ID (driver's license, etc) for all those 16 and older. scottbee Posted July 3, 2010 #5 Share Posted July 3, 2010 We are planning a family cruse next year six adults and five teenagers. Do we need passports for Burmuda or can we use birthpapers? The current rules are that a US Citizen must carry a passport for re-entry to the United States, UNLESS you're on a closed loop cruise to the caribbean/mexico/canada. Bermuda probably counts as Caribbean, but check with the state department. Note that it's not the requirement of these countries to require a passport, but the requirement of the United States for re-entry.
cherylandtk Posted July 3, 2010 #6 Share Posted July 3, 2010 Bermuda falls under the WHTI cruise exception. Passports are always highly recommended, but native born US citizens may use their certified birth certificates and government issued picture ID on RT cruises from the US. smeyer418 Posted July 3, 2010 #7 Share Posted July 3, 2010 http://www.getyouhome.gov/html/lang_eng/index.html here is the official US Government website. under special groups. Bermuda is part of the WHTI....which you can confirm on this website... if you have to fly back however.....a passport is required.
BeautifulBermuda Posted July 4, 2010 #8 Share Posted July 4, 2010 We used our birth certificates and driver’s licenses (last minute cruise didn't have enough time to get passports) We were surprised that we had no trouble at all getting on the ship. (Make sure women have marriage licenses if married so name matches driver’s license) but it was easier getting onto the boat because your luggage is already turned in and you don't have a lot to carry. Getting off the ship was another story- it was hard to juggle all the paperwork and luggage and souvenirs through customs (plus it holds up the line for others) We will be getting passports for our next trip to Bermuda. paul929207 Posted July 4, 2010 #9 Share Posted July 4, 2010 If you are a US citizen, you can take a closed loop (starts and ends in the same US port) cruise to Bermuda without a passport. You will need a certified copy of your birth certificate and a government issued photo ID (Drivers License).
Putterdude Posted July 5, 2010 #10 Share Posted July 5, 2010 So long as you are on a closed loop cruise you do not need a passport....but if you needed to fly home for some unforseen reason you will need a passport. http://www.dhs.gov/files/crossingborders/travelers.shtm#
