Grand Princess-1/29/05

We cruised the Grand from Galveston on 1/29/05. We had a great time on a beautiful ship. We were somewhat disappointed with the late arrivals to some of the ports. Our excursion in Belize was cancelled due to being 1hr30min late. The casino slots seemed to be extra tight! The steaks in the Painted Desert were outstanding. The stateroom service was also great. We had a wonderful time on Mr. Sancho's beach in Cozumel (south of the dock several miles past Chankanab). I have posted photos of the ship and trip at: http://rookie.smugmug.com/gallery/387187

Flyfisherod: Man - I was on your cruise & just got my pix back. I must say you have a gift. My pictures aren't half as good - altho' good memories for us personally. I like the shots you got of the ship, and some of the shore areas that we failed to shoot. Nice picture of Belize City Harbor too. Maybe you should hire yourself out as a Personal Vacation Photographer in exchange for free cruises!

Ver nice pictures, enjoyed very much.

My wife & I will be sailing on the Grand 4/2. We'll be staying in cabin 715 on Caribe Deck. This will be our 1st cruise on Princess, 3rd cruise overall.

We've been reading about the late arrivals in Belize. We would really like to do the cave tubing but don't want to be dissappointed if it is canceled. We were thinking not booking an excursion in Belize & just stay on the ship, which would be fine with us. Would you recommend going this route?

Any info you can provide on your cabin would be great since our's will be very close to where you stayed. Location on ship, storage, balcony, etc.

Thanks

Rick,

715 will be on the starboard side of the ship opposite from our room on the port side. This cabin is located mid-aft on ship and has a very generous balcony compared to the other cabins on ship (approx. 9x9 ft.). Cabin was very nice, maybe a little short on closet space. The laundromats were close and not too busy.

Parasailing in Cozumel ran $55 per person.

Were ALL the ship's shore excursions cancelled in Belize or just the cave tubing?

Thanks for sharing the beautiful pictures, both of you!

I was on this sailing too. I know for sure the Airboat Adventure excursions weren't cancelled (I was on one of them) and neither were one or two of the city tour-type things (A Tale of Two Cities and Belize City & Old Belize Museum, as I recall). There may have been a snorkeling tour that went too, but I'm not 100% sure.

No pictures from me, I left the camera in the car :(

As I recall, there were about 5 ship excursions that still went - most seemed to be connected with the City tours, museums & such. No time for anything too far from the dock. Ours wasn't a ship excursion & we drove around about 10-15 miles out and about from Belize City.

  • 3 months later...

:) We are going 11/26/2005. Booked in B301, Baja deck. I am so glad to see The Grand docked at Costa Maya. We had been told that it was 3 tendered ports. We been to Grand Caymen once and Cozumel twice. These pictures are great! Gave us an idea of what to expect our first time on a Princess Ship.
