Rare Lois R Posted July 18, 2010 #26 Share Posted July 18, 2010 What is a sail and sign card? Newbie here. Hi, it is a card that is your room key as well as the card that pays for all of your purchases. You give them a real credit card at check in and they in turn give you this card for the duration of your cruise. (oh, they give you your real credit card back at the same time too). Cruz Doggie Gal Posted July 18, 2010 #27 Share Posted July 18, 2010 I think you can get a card holder at the casino. At least I've gotten one on the other ships from there.
satchiesmom Posted July 18, 2010 #28 Share Posted July 18, 2010 I'm not sure I follow this. We aren't new to cruising but always use a lanyard. The ones we use have a plastic sleeve we slip our cards into and we can tuck any receipts down the back. I usually drop mine under my shirt so it's not always visable but my husband doesn't bother. It's a matter of convenience, not whether you are a new cruiser. I have a really neat Coach lanyard that is similar to what you describe and use it on every cruise - and no, we are not new to cruising. Don't get that connection at all.
CaroleLee Posted July 18, 2010 #29 Share Posted July 18, 2010 I know we need to keep our SS card with us in order to get back in our room and buy drinks, etc. Where do people carry their cards? The last cruise I was on, Carnival, people carried it around on a lanyard that they gave out in the casino. It was kind of tacky, but it was better than lugging around a purse all day. I'll be on the Solstice in a week! So....how do you Celebrity folk carry your cards? If you are female buy a tiny "Girlie bag"-everyone from LV to MAXX makes them. Room for the card, lipstick, glasses etc. Very light weight, tucks under your arm- great for sightseeing. Carole
julia Posted July 18, 2010 #30 Share Posted July 18, 2010 I like to use my Cruise Critic lanyard because people will stop and ask me "soo... who are you on Cruise Critic ?" I like that! :)
Jobeth66 Posted July 18, 2010 #31 Share Posted July 18, 2010 I use a lanyard. I don't carry a purse unless I absolutely have to, I wish more clothing manufacturers would make women's clothing with pockets. I *hate* carrying a purse. I can fit everything I need into a small wallet. On formal nights or whenever we dress up, DH usually winds up carrying my ID & anything else I might need out of my wallet. krewzin Posted July 19, 2010 #32 Share Posted July 19, 2010 What is a sail and sign card? Newbie here. Since you're a newbie, make sure that once you *get* yer sail & sign card....you put it in a lanyard. :D
KBD1516 Posted July 19, 2010 #33 Share Posted July 19, 2010 We keep our cards on lanyards too. On every cruise we buy some small hooks that have adhesive stuff on the back. You can stick these on the wall and we keep our lanyards hanging up on these hooks. Works great. We usually put them on the wall in the hallway near the door so we won't forget to grab them when we leave the room. When the cruise is over you just pull a tab on the hook and it will come off the wall with no damage to the wall. A magnet with a hook works very well for us. I use the kitchen type magnet which is made to hold a dish towel. Since ship walls are metal, you can put the magnet anywhere and hang stuff on the hook. Strong magnets will hold your daily planner or anything else on the walls as well. Not laying on a dresser...
Jobeth66 Posted July 19, 2010 #34 Share Posted July 19, 2010 Best of both worlds for in-cabin card holder - magnetic clip like this: http://www.amazon.com/Square-Magnetic-12-Pack-Silver-A7072133A/dp/B001DZ15VE/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=office-products&qid=1279569388&sr=8-3 You can clip whatever you want to hang up (dailies, notes to cabin mates, etc.) and hang your lanyard over the top. mlmc424 Posted July 19, 2010 #35 Share Posted July 19, 2010 I use beautiful beaded lanyards that I can color-coordinate with my outfits. I have found some on Ebay as well as www.cruiselanyards.com.
Tiki_Man Posted July 19, 2010 #36 Share Posted July 19, 2010 I use a wrist wrap thingy with a keyring. Different color for each person (when our daughter and a friend would sail with us). Easy to put in your pocket, yet put it around your wrist when coming aboard or going ashore (I have seen cards fly out of folks hand with a strong gust of wind or they just drop them). Also, they float (again, just in case) and then you can easily find them in the morning going to get that cup or coffee. They have been very handy on the last 20 something cruises (but heck, maybe I am still a newbie :) Tiki
