beehee124 Posted February 9, 2005 #1 Share Posted February 9, 2005 Someone told me that they off this for a good rate - has anyone had it done? Is the process safe?
Cotton Posted February 9, 2005 #2 Share Posted February 9, 2005 One of my tablemates had the teeth whitening done last cruise. She was pleased with both the price and the look. However, she wasn't happy with the fact that she couldn't have any red wine or coffee for two full days. I remember they were advertising a reduced rate for a couple of days. Still seemed high to me. runner15km Posted February 9, 2005 #3 Share Posted February 9, 2005 Just back from the Victory 1/30 cruise and their posted price for the treatment was $199.
MizzCard Posted February 9, 2005 #4 Share Posted February 9, 2005 Just back from the Victory 1/30 cruise and their posted price for the treatment was $199. Heck....my dentist does it for that price!
napsterisback Posted February 9, 2005 #5 Share Posted February 9, 2005 That's way too much. Get the strips. For only $25.00 you can get them white.
Rare Tom-n-Cheryl Posted February 9, 2005 #6 Share Posted February 9, 2005 The Crest Whitestrips are your best bet - that is what you should try before shelling out $ on the ship for it... basically EVERYTHING you buy on the ship costs MORE than it would otherwise (except bottles of alcohol - not sure about the cigarettes, being a non-smoker). Some dental offices also sell an "Rx" strength Crest Whitestrip product - still for less than conventional bleaching trays...(and less than the Carnival treatment). Keep in mind that, when bleaching, you MAY have temp sensitivity - I would NOT want to have sensitive teeth while trying to enjoy cold libations!:D Tom
Guest Time2gocruzn Posted February 9, 2005 #7 Share Posted February 9, 2005 I was considering this too b4 I read this thread........ http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=104928&highlight=whitening
Cotton Posted February 9, 2005 #8 Share Posted February 9, 2005 :D The thought of not having coffee for two days would drive me up the wall!
halos Posted February 9, 2005 #9 Share Posted February 9, 2005 I can tell you first hand that the Crest White strips work GREAT!! Give them a shot!!!
kujobie Posted February 10, 2005 #10 Share Posted February 10, 2005 The last thing I would consider doing on a cruise is having dental work done. That just seems wrong. Then again, it WOULD be cool if there was a breakfast bufet at my dentist's office.
TxStacey Posted February 10, 2005 #11 Share Posted February 10, 2005 My Dh is a dentist. It is illegal to dispense the same strength whitener that we use in our office without a dentist present. I would guess that they are using a bleach that is not as strong, ie similar to Crest white strips, that you can buy over the counter for alot less. We tell patients that getting the Crest Whitestrips over the counter vs the bleach we can give them is like getting Tylenol for pain vs Vicodin for pain. One is a prescription and the other is not. Both will work, but not the same. I would guess that the price they are charging is probably in line with the other prices they charge for other services. I would not do this procedure unless it is administered by a dentist.
Kathy555 Posted February 10, 2005 #12 Share Posted February 10, 2005 My daughter had it done in the dentist's office - her teeth were very sensitive for a couple of days - it is called the zingers.
TxStacey Posted February 10, 2005 #13 Share Posted February 10, 2005 DH just reminded me that they probably don't have to abide by US laws which is an even STRONGER reason not to have it done on the ship. There's no telling what bleach they are using in that case!!
Kathy555 Posted February 10, 2005 #14 Share Posted February 10, 2005 I asked my daughter how much she paid and she didn't remember. I do know it was way more than $199.00 - I personally wouldn't do it - you never know what reaction you could have. Enjoy your vacation and get it done when you come back. My 15 year old used the Crest strips and they really did a pretty nice job. Of course he is young and they weren't too discolored - but he did need it. Agree with this statement 100% I view it as a waste of money on the cruise ship. Its bad enough that you can't have coffee and wine for two days!!! JrMafia90 Posted February 10, 2005 #16 Share Posted February 10, 2005 I never knew they did this on a cruise? Must be something new, also where do they do it, the doctor's office? The spa?
runner15km Posted February 10, 2005 #17 Share Posted February 10, 2005 On the Victory the sign was at the entrance to the spa.
halos Posted February 10, 2005 #18 Share Posted February 10, 2005 Having a dentists whiten your teeth is great when your teeth are really bad...if it's just normal whitening you need because your teeth are slightly stained from coffee/age/smoking whatever...the white strips work like magic. My dentist & hygienist reccomend them. The Tylenol/Vicodin analogy is good because remember, a normal headache doesn't call for Vicodin and normal staining does not call for hundreds of dollars spent at the dentist when you can use Crest for $25 (with $5 to $7 off if you clip Sunday coupons!!!! :D )
