Do US citizens (with US passports) flying to the UK and joining a European cruise (Spain, Portugal and France) and then flying back to the US require any sort of visa/Schengen visa?
No visa required. However, the UK is not part of the Schengen Agreement so you would need to go through Customs/Immigration every time you arrive in the UK.

Almost all countries waive a visa when you are there for the day on a cruise ship. China and Brazil are exceptions and Russia waives the visa if you disembark the ship for a ship's tour. You are not allowed to leave the tour and make your way independently.

What Pam is talking about is in St. Petersburg. Visa also waived if you are doing an independent tour with a recognized Russian tour company such as Denrus, Red October, etc. Still can't leave the tour and wander. Not necessary to limit yourself to Princess sponsored tours.

In Vladivostok, no visa is required to walk around on your own.
