beagledude Posted July 26, 2010 #1 Share Posted July 26, 2010 Is one side preferable to the other on this sailing (Labadee/Ocho Rios/Grand Caymen/Cozumel)?
sailingawaysoon Posted July 29, 2010 #2 Share Posted July 29, 2010 We were port side our Western cruise on the Freedom and had nice views of all the ports. Have a great cruise!
cruiselovincouple Posted July 29, 2010 #3 Share Posted July 29, 2010 We were on the Starboard side on our Princess cruise a few years ago and had great views. I don't think it matters in the Caribbean, beauty can be found on all sides! ~Lisa :p

Bakincakes Posted July 29, 2010 #5 Share Posted July 29, 2010 We always book starboard on Western Carib sailings...but keep in mind each Captain is different and may bring the ship in differently than another.:)
MedicKen Posted July 29, 2010 #6 Share Posted July 29, 2010 It really doesn't matter what side of the ship your cabin is on. The port authority dictates what side is to the dock. The Captain may have a preference but the end word belongs to the Authority. Even Oasis has to switch sides on occasion and they have a special arrangement for disembarking passengers geared for the starboard side. Remember you can always go to an open public deck if you want to see the "other" side. P.S. It's more fun to watch for "runners" with a drink in your hand and others around you cheering as well. beagledude Posted July 29, 2010 Author #7 Share Posted July 29, 2010 Thanks for the feedback. I understand the part about docking in port but was more interested if there was a preferred side for views in general. Having done only the Mexican Riviera, I felt the port side was much better since there was a fair amount of sailing by the coast as you approached and departed ports. We will be going from PC to Labadee-Ocho Rios-Grand Cayman-Cozumel.

We will be going from PC to Labadee-Ocho Rios-Grand Cayman-Cozumel. I've been on the Western itinerary a couple times on the Freedom and we always pick port side and have never been disappointed. Like someone else wrote, there's a nice view on both sides. Have a wonderful time.
cb at sea Posted July 29, 2010 #9 Share Posted July 29, 2010 We actually prefer being away from the land, when in port....if you're sitting on your balcony, it's not very relaxing with dock workers looking up at you, as well as all of the "onshore" passengers! GC is tendered, so the bow of the ship is usually facing the island.
Gon2hwe Posted July 29, 2010 #10 Share Posted July 29, 2010 As far as views are concerned I don't think it matters, but we did Western in June and every day we were in the hot sun on the balcony on the Port side. It made it very uncomfortable until dark.
