Elegant Dressing: Who still does it?

I do! I do! I wear a dress or skirt every evening, and a cocktail dress on the two elegant nights. DH wears slacks and nice shirts every evening, and a dark suit on elegant nights. We both enjoy getting ready for dinner every night. We have drinks on the balcony and watch sail away, then we get ready for dinner. It's nice.

We definitely are not a "Big Mac" crowd! But....we have dressed to the nines on our cruises. But the last one and this next one, we are toning it down a bit. We are what I call "dressy/casual". No shorts, no jeans, no T-shirts, no sandals, nothing inappropriate, for sure.

But, DH and the other men are doing dress pants with a dress shirt. No jackets or ties.

We are not taking all of the really formal clothing on our vacations any more!!! And.....by golly.....we feel great about that.

Believe me, we are not going to offend anyone with our dress. It is completely acceptable and so much more comfortable.

Once you get past the door of the dining room, no one cares what you have on while you are sitting down to dinner.

Actually they don't care before the door either, but do have a look!!!!;)

BUT....I do love to gawk at the beautiful gowns and dresses. And when we do feel like dressing up, I love the way I look with DH. I think it is funny though when I see a woman all dressed very formal and her escort is totally not.

We love to dress up for the formal nights! Hubby wears a suit and I will do either a cocktail dress or gown. On the other nights, we still dress up...hubby in slacks and collared shirt and I will wear a cute short dress! Love it!!!:D

We used to dress up but as the boys got older they did not want to go to dinner with us if they had to dress. They are 19 and 17 so they have on black dress pants and a dress shirt. This works for us. I wear a nice pair of dress pants or capri's. I have to dress up for work everyday so now the last thing I want to do is dress up on vacation. Also, with airline restrictions we try to bring only one bag each or it adds to the cost of our trip. I feel as long as your clean, neat and respectful it does not matter what you wear to dinner. I am here for myself and no one else. My husband does not like to get dressed up so nice dress pants, shirt and tie works fine for him. I would not want him uncomfortable during dinner.

We wear the same style casual clothes on all our vacations. On cruises this includes all meals including MDR Elegant, Steak House on Elegant Night and the Chef's Table.

Never had a problem.

Will predict and hope that Elegant Night will be relegated to Capt. Cocktail Party and the MDR be comple Any Time Dinning in the next couple of years.

Count me in as another who still does "elegant" night. For all the yakking about folks dressing down, I was pleasantly surprised at how many folks really did dress up on my last two Carnival Freedom cruises - not many tuxes, mind you, but lots and lots of suits, dress military uniforms, and elegant dresses. But of course, to each his/her own.

Since it doesn't bother me what you wear on elegant night, why you in turn would "hope" for the end of elegant night escapes me - sounds like reverse snobbery to me.

I love dressing up when eating in the Main Dining Room. For casual nights, I generally wear a summer dress, maxi dress or cocktail dress. Then for elegant nights, I wear a more formal dress. Dressing up for dinner on Elegant Night is one of the things I look forward to on a cruise. Everyone, for the most part, looks very nice and is having fun. I also love taking pictures before dinner - they look great in the scrapbook. :)

So the tie doesn't make DH uncomfortable, but putting on a jacket to go with the tie does? I agree that clean, neat, and respectful is all that it takes, but it tickles me that a guy would be OK with a tie but not a jacket - it's almost always the other way around.

Happy cruising!
