jon462 Posted August 3, 2010 #1 Share Posted August 3, 2010 I'm going on the aug 14th cruise soon (yay) just wondering what people thought of the bug issues (if any) and I had read mention of bug spray/wipes. Anyone care to recommend some that I could pick up here b4 heading to paradise? Thanks! Jon

sandandsea lovers Posted August 4, 2010 #4 Share Posted August 4, 2010 If the bugs over there are only of the fly and mosquito type that bite, and you want deet free, any insect repellant with melaleuca is fine. Being Australian, it is easy to get this type of repellant and that is what we are taking with us.
FlightMedic555 Posted August 5, 2010 #5 Share Posted August 5, 2010 We returned last week and brought wipes with 25% DEET. They were easy to carry on our land excursions and we only had to use them once. You can get them at sporting goods stores such as Dicks Sporting Goods in the US or on the internet. mustangmonie Posted August 9, 2010 #6 Share Posted August 9, 2010 I also took the wipes (OFF) as they are easy to transport and don't count as a liquid. I didn't need them as much as I had anticipated, but I certainly did need them. I was eaten alive in about 3 minutes in the mountains of Moorea and was thrilled I could whip out my wipes and stop the feast. I actually needed to reapply once. I used them proactively on the Motu day and at the beach in Bora-Bora. I would take them if you think there is any chance you will do any of the mountain hikes or tours. Unless, you are one of those lucky folks that cause mosquitos to turn their noses in the air.
FlightMedic555 Posted August 11, 2010 #7 Share Posted August 11, 2010 We also found the mosquitos in the mountains of Moorea. On the motu we did not see any bugs at all that would bite.
Wendy The Wanderer Posted August 11, 2010 #8 Share Posted August 11, 2010 Moorea in the mountains is the only place we've ever had a problem, in 4 trips. And we just borrowed someone else's repellant (the local one, made with monoi oil.) But I've heard that at some times of the year there can be sand fleas or something like them on the motu. DrmnOfMaui Posted August 25, 2010 #9 Share Posted August 25, 2010 I use a bug spray that doesn't have Deet in it made by Bull Frog. It also has a bit of sun screen, but we only use it for but deterrent. It has worked well in FP as well as camping in Sequoia!!
