amapola Posted August 5, 2010 #27 Share Posted August 5, 2010 I take energy bars too, not to eat on board but to take on shorex. If we're just walking around in port at lunchtime, we'll eat at a local restaurant, but on excursions you might or might not find something to tide you over... CruisinPandora Posted August 5, 2010 #29 Share Posted August 5, 2010 There's only one cruiseline that we bring snacks on the ship and I won't name them (and no it's not Holland America) though you'll probably figure it out from my signature. This cruiseline shuts down by 10 pm and you could order room service up until a certain time I think. But quick foods like pizza, etc is not available. And sometimes after shows, going to bars, casino, etc. we'd like a little snack. So there's the need to bring what we really like for a little quick meal. All other cruiselines it's not a problem. insulationbabe Posted August 5, 2010 #30 Share Posted August 5, 2010 Gosh who needs snacks on a cruise ship - especially Royal - although we have cousins that need to snack at night - can't imagine - I'm lucky if I can move after eating dinner-- lol:)
cruisegirl1 Posted August 5, 2010 #31 Share Posted August 5, 2010 We never brought any snacks on board - but I've picked up a few good ideas. M
Chuggiebug Posted August 5, 2010 #32 Share Posted August 5, 2010 We usually take something salty. That way we can sit with a cold beverage and a salty snack in the afternoon. MmmMmmm!!!!! We skip lunch. Three big meals is too much so we eat a late breakfast and early dinner.

reney313 Posted August 6, 2010 #36 Share Posted August 6, 2010 WHAAAAATTTTT????? No pillow chocolates anymore? I like the idea of bringing a package and asking the room steward to leave one at turndown. Maybe I can just bring some cookies back from WJ in the afternoon and ask them to leave those on the pillow.
dmdiver Posted August 6, 2010 #37 Share Posted August 6, 2010 Even though you are fed well on a cruise, my dh was wanting peanuts or something like that to snack on. I think they did have some in the general store on board, but he wasn't willing to pay the price for them. I noticed several different snack items there and the formalities shop sells candy - I suppose by the scoop or something. I saw it through the window. Bookish Angel Posted August 6, 2010 #38 Share Posted August 6, 2010 Unsalted nuts, dried apples and pineapple and a few Power Bars for excursions. Sometimes I bring Goldfish but those are way salty! The ships's snacks are too fatty, too salty and too over-processed for my taste.
Cuizer2 Posted August 6, 2010 #39 Share Posted August 6, 2010 Just thought it would be a fun question. With all the food that is available on a cruise ship, I see no reason to bring any extra with me.
ColdenGirl Posted August 6, 2010 #40 Share Posted August 6, 2010 This will be my our cruise so I'm not sure if this is feasible but it seems so from different posts I've read.... Bring some zip lock bags. Order cookies, cheese n crackers or whatever from room service or bing back some pastries from Cafe Promenade and bag them for snacking or taking on shore. And there is a frig in the room if needed, right? What do you think of this? Jan.
Newbcruiser1 Posted August 6, 2010 #41 Share Posted August 6, 2010 No snacks needed! Whatever we bring is intended more for the plane-ride... granola bars, pringles, etc. We occasionally snack on something in our room before dinner or before bed, but not often, and definitely not necessary with all of the food on the ship! Most ports do not allow you to take food off the ship, except pre-packaged food.
clover4 Posted August 6, 2010 #43 Share Posted August 6, 2010 Pretzels! I love pretzels, especially with my beer. Two cruises ago - on the Majesty - I looked everywhere for pretzels and could find nothing that "simple". Ended up making do with a $5  can of Pringles from one of the stores...on the last night we noticed a room service tray with an empty bag of chips on it outside of someone's door... never occurred to us to try to get room service to bring us a bag of chips or pretzels! Now I just bring a bag or two of pretzel sticks - which travel pretty well!
romnan Posted August 6, 2010 #44 Share Posted August 6, 2010 I have stopped bring snacks on board. I have learned they take up room, there are far too many interesting things on board to take their place:D

aloha of the seas Posted August 6, 2010 #47 Share Posted August 6, 2010 If I have the time to shop in port before a cruise I will usually buy a couple of cans of Pepperidge Farms Pirouette vanilla wafers sticks. They are great for nibbling on when I am stting on the balcony or just before dinner. Very light and not too sweet. Just pick them up and carry them on.
