Carnival Platinum Cruiser Posted August 16, 2010 #1 Share Posted August 16, 2010 We are going on the Sun in October and have a few dining questions. 1) Do you need to get a reservation for anytime dining in any of the free dining areas? 2) What are the free and pay restaurants on the Sun? 3) Is it a big problem to get a table for 2? Thanks

Thanks 1. Unlike "anytime" dining on many other mass-market cruise lines, you do NOT need a reservation to eat in any of the free dining areas. Just walk into the dining room when you are ready to dine. 3. NCL ships have many tables for two in the main dining rooms, so, unlike many other mass-market cruise ships, there is pretty much NO problem getting a table for two. Enjoy your Sun cruise. And relax about dining issues.
jg51 Posted August 16, 2010 #3 Share Posted August 16, 2010 2) What are the free and pay restaurants on the Sun? If you scroll through three or four pages of this NCL forum, watching for threads about the Sun, you will find at least one in which your question #2 is answered. mdwest1975 Posted August 16, 2010 #7 Share Posted August 16, 2010 You don't need a reservation, but we always got one. We would call as soon as we got back to the room from our excursion. Made the reservation for about 45 minutes later. Then would shower and change, then head down to dinner. We had a party of 9 and never had a problem. I would recommend reservations for a party of five or six or more. For two, a reservation isn't necessary, and there are plenty of tables available for couples. We've often been seated as a couple at a table for four. Main dining rooms on NCL ships built for freestyle have more tables for two and four than ships built for traditional dining that have lately added so-called "anytime" or "my time" dining, and that recommend making reservations in advance, even before you cruise.

We only ate together, all of us a couple of times. Nita
tsg Posted August 16, 2010 #10 Share Posted August 16, 2010 Haven't been on the Sun but our experience on other NCL ships is that we've never had to wait in a MDR and have always gotten a table for 2. We tend to eat later though so that helps. I would suggest you make reservations if you want to eat in a specialty restaurant. Especially Teppanyaki - the hibachi table only accommodates a certain number. I can't remember the exact times but they usually have seating every hour and half or 2 hours there. We've done it once and it was really good. We are planning to make our reservations for our upcoming cruise on the first day to make sure we fit it in. Rare sparks1093 Posted August 16, 2010 #11 Share Posted August 16, 2010 The key to Freestyle dining is to be hungry when everyone else isn't, but waits at the MDR aren't usually too long. We've only had one wait that was longer than 20 minutes and they gave us a pager so we could walk around instead of standing in line.
