Bed bugs in stateroom

The other thread is deeply buried now and my question was lost-

without repeating what everyone else has said...

What is the policy/procedure and passenger rights IF bedbugs are found in the stateroom? Let's assume it's early in the day and a passenger went to their room before unpacking and checked and found them...lets say the luggage hasn't even been brough in yet.

Surely the passenger goes to the desk...move cabins- if available? If not- leave the ship?

Anyone know what a passenger is really supposed to do if they find bedbugs? And what Carnival is supposed to do?

Perhaps you could call the cruiseline directly to ask what their policy is. I'm not sure you will find this on here. This has never been something that concerns me cuz its never happened to me.

you will have to check along the "headboards" and in the creases of the the mattresses. i work in the hotel industry and like another poster stated, even the swankest of places can get them. just have to keep an eye out and get it treated. more than likely if you find them, go straight to desk services and what they can do is to remove the mattresses and bedding and get it replaced. if there is another cabin open, i'm sure they will move you to it. give them the opportunity to correct the problem. be nice, but firm not all pissy or cursing lol.

as one poster posted from a website bedbugs hide in dark places until night, then will come out and its then they will bite you, just like a flea does (though fleas bite anytime of day or night). thats why it was strange how that guest got bit just sitting on the bed when they checked in. not saying she wasnt, but strange.

but the best answer (hopefully) will come from carnival direct.

Please post what you find out I'm very curious about this as the 1st thread was on the Glory and we are going in Feb 2011 on that ship and I'm worried

The thread you're talking about was started in October 2009 (almost a year ago). Just sayin'...

Yeah. Unfortunately, someone resurrected that thread posting about a current incident, and now I forgot what the new ship is.

Semi epidemic going on here in NY, so they are showing what to look for.

Even the Empire State Building has them now. Never even thought about sleeping there.

There are dogs that sniff out bedbugs - not sure if the two previous posters knew that or not. NYC is looking into getting a few of them since they are having a lot of cases of bedbugs there right now.

Very true. I read an article that dogs are being used to sniff them out in college dormitories.

Does this mean we ban Yankees from sailing on Carnival?

Kidding! Honest! Mr. Pete's post got me started.

They're having issues with them in other states, too.

(But the Yankees baseball team should definitely be banned!!)

If it gets too bad, it's possible they will have dogs checking luggage and passengers and denying boarding to any found smuggling bedbugs. ;)

Oddly enough, I had the bed bug conversation with some friends last night. One in Apartment Management and one is an Infection control specialist. Sarg, did you know that they actually have bed bug sniffing dogs?:D. Bed bugs are a real problem everywhere right now. I understand that there are no insecticides that will control them. You can get rid of them with heat and steam. Most places remove the mattresses and bedding but sometimes that isn't enough. It's getting more common but the only thing you can really do to prevent contact with bed bugs is stay at home and not let anyone else into your house.

It sounds like Carnival takes care of things immediately. The mattresses are thrown out and the rooms disinfected. I think they keep things well maintained. It sounds like a mature infestation takes neglect and Carnival doesn't let anything go.

If you find anything suspicious, just let them know. I have no worry at all about it.

You have not lived until you seen my 60 lB parapalegic aunt defend her Red Sox against my dad's NY Yankees. (Her BIL)

Some of my Best memories:D

They had a beer and a fierce discussion about their team and they loved every minute of it!:D

But if you take away baseball, what else is there in life?!?! ;)

(Go Red Sox!)

Not sure if the satisfaction policy is still in play

Used to be before u got to your first port and you were not satisfied you can get off and they would fly you back and credit you the cruise something along those lines..... Which really is a good thing

Do not know if anyone invoked it. Seems a good way to avoid cust issues and company shakedowns

So the ship is full, I have to wait until night to see if my cabin has bed bugs. Now lets say I find some. Its 11:30PM and I am "ready for bed"

I report it to head of house keeping. They come, take away my matress and all bed linen, disinfect my cabin and all this time I am sitting in the hallway waiting for them to finish. I would hate to think that I would have to spend my first night sleeping on a deck chair some where on the ship.

Do you think I can get at least one free drink for this? And before I am flamed I AM JUST JOKING!

In all my six :eek:cruises I have never seen a bed bug and I hope that I never will.

OHHHH - GO YANKEES! and lets not forget GO SAINTS!
