Rare cruisemom42 Posted August 25, 2010 #3 Share Posted August 25, 2010 Interesting article. We drove by some of those luxury gated communities en route from Cairo back to Alexandria. Quite different from being in Cairo!
WeBeGone Posted August 25, 2010 #4 Share Posted August 25, 2010 Well they have to do something. Cairo is busting at the seams. I think the new cities offer some breathing room for those that will be able to afford it. After visting almost all the big cities of the world (I traveled extensively before starting to cruise), I can say that Cairo is one of the cities I could never live in. Rare cruisemom42 Posted August 25, 2010 #5 Share Posted August 25, 2010 I wonder if it may actually be a good thing in the long run...... I'm sure many of us remember when everyone was fleeing the big cities here in the US in the 1970s and early 1980s. NYC was a mess; Atlanta was full of slums and crime. Things have turned around in many big cities. Perhaps Cairo's time will come....

happy trailer Posted August 25, 2010 #7 Share Posted August 25, 2010 Two other articles of interest about Egypt in today's paper: Egypt announces site of first nuclear power plant and, on an entirely different note: Egypt discovers 3.500 year old oasis trading post Gotta love the juxtaposition of these articles (but that's the Middle East for you ;))!
