Hotels at Heathrow?

Is it still only the Hilton and Sofitel hotels at Heathrow? What are other options?

How would we get from terminal 3 to these hotels?

We are not sure to fly and arrive at 21:00 and rent a car the next day at Heathrow to go to Southampton or fly and arrive in the morning and rent a car.

The Hilton and Sofitel are the only full-service hotels at LHR terminals (there is also the Yotel, a type of capsule hotel). The Hilton is at terminal 4 and the Sofitel at terminal 5, so neither are particularly convenient for someone arriving at terminal 3 (just to give you an overview of LHR geography: terminals 1-2-3 are clustered together, with terminals 4 and 5 separate and some ways away from this central cluster and from each other). Obviously, there are numerous hotels in the surrounding area, and I would recommend you go with one of those as they would be no harder and further to get to from terminal 3.

My mother once took that morning flight. She said it was the best TA flight she's ever taken. I think arriving in the evening and renting the car the next day is the way to go.

Hilton - take Heathrow Connect to T4. Take elevator to departures level and walk across the skybridge (takes about 5mins, it's a long skybridge!)

Sofitel - take Heathrow Express to T5 and follow signs to covered walkway.

Both hotels are at the right end of the terminal for the trains.

The Yotel is inside Terminal 4, directions on their website. But in terms of other hotels at Heathrow there are dozens. IMO the Sofitel is the best, I find the Sheraton Skyline, Hilton and Radisson Edwardian to be fine. At the Sheraton Heathrow book at least one level up from the lowest category as the rooms are a bit pokey.

Bruin Steve's experience and advice on your other thread are salutary. Planning involves more than one step at a time. Why are you renting a car to go to Southampton? Where else are you going when you get there?
