Mel Fisher theft

From you local guys, any updates on the gold bar theft at Mel Fishers? What a shame someone managed to steal that:mad: I hope they're caught and the bar is found:(

That's really too bad the bar was stolen! It was definitely one of the highlights of the Mel Fisher Museum. I hope they catch them. :cool:

You know, I always thought that box wasn't secured very well and security was rather thin given the value of the pieces.

I thought the same thing but it was (is) a great experience when visiting the museum.

One of my best experiences in the museum was visiting the jewelry store and one of the guys on staff asked me if I wanted to hold one of the very heavy gold chains that came from the Atocha. I was able to hold it for a few minutes with no security and when I asked how much it was, I was told $350,000 (about 5 years ago before gold prices skyrocketed). I was truely amazed that they would just let anyone hold that.
