Can someone tell me the differences between the Conquest & the Ecstasy

We are looking at going on a cruise in Feb out of Galveston for our anniversary. We normally sail Royal Caribbean, but are thinking about trying Carnival this time.

What are the differences between the Conquest and the Ecstasy (besides the length of the cruise and the ports)?

Any information would be helpful.

Thanks

Ecstasy is much smaller (see cruisedeckplans and compare sizes of cabins, and ships etc)

Ecstasy has a very special CD and his staff shines and they have won so many awards, as the favorite Carnival ship. OVs on Ecstasy are the same size as insides. The ship shines after the one month dry dock, where balconys and water works were added. This ship now has Mongolian BBQ and rotissie chicken, which I love to combine.

Conquest has a so so CD. OVs are 220 s.f. and it has a pay dinner restaurant, Sur Mer (fish and chips), Mongolian BBQ but no rotissie chicken. Conquest of course is newer.

Both ships have the usual, free sushi near the casino, pizza, deli, buffet, MDR etc.

I think the most valid comparison is by features and size.

The Ecstasy (one of my favorite ships...) is 855 feet long and has a gross weight of 77,000 tons. She has many of the most popular features of all Carnival ships including a water park and the Serenity Adults Only area. She does not have a steakhouse or the Carnival SeaSide Theater and only sails shorter four and five day itineraries.

The Conquest is quite a bit larger at 952 feet long with a gross weight of 110,000 tons. She has everything the Ecstasy minus the huge slide for the waterpark. Additionally, she has the SeaSide Theater and the wonderful Sur Mer fish and chips restaurant and the steakhouse, The Point.

They both have the amazing Chef's Table as a dining option.

The Conquest does seven day itineraries to the Western Caribbean and, once a month, sails to the Bahamas.

Crews and staff come and go but the ship seldom changes.

Either ship is an excellent choice.

Like Fire said, the Ecstasy is much smaller and in addition to her points there are no refridgerators or hair dryers except for maybe in the suites.

I prefer the Conquest and will be sailing on her for the 6th time in just a few weeks.

We were on the Ecstasy in October of last year and stayed in an OV room. Loved it! Now we are planning on going on the Conquest in June of 2011. When I look at OV rooms online on the conquest, it appears as if they are bigger and have a sitting area unlike the Ecstasy which just had the bed. Is this true?

I would not call it a separate sitting area, but you will have a sofa and yes, the OVs are larger on Conquest as I mentioned above, 185 s.f. vs. 220 s.f.

Conquest does not have the rotissie chicken, which is extra good on Ecstasy.

Conquest also does not have waterworks. Just the one slide.

Thanks Firefly! I am still trying to decide if I want an OV or a balcony, of course I want the balcony but I don't know if I want to spend the extra $$$.

We have had a lot of OVs. My sister doesnt like sitting in the sun or the wind. I would be out there by myself which doesnt sound fun, Id rather sit up at the Lido where all the people are.

I think it depends on your regular life. If you are going on a cruise to be alone and relax, a balcony might be perfect. I love the hustle and bustle and am out of the cabin and about the ship and walking around, even at 3 am. Do you want alone time or not? Balcony cabins are 185 s.f on both ships plus a small balcony. 35. s.f. on Conquest. Id have to look, but I think 40 s.f. on Ecstasy ...so total s.f. on Conquest the OV and standard balconys will have the same s.f.

I've sailed RCL too and since you will probably be comparing everything I would choose the Conquest as it is newer and more impressive. I do like the Ecstasy but realize it is a little older even with the upgrades that were great it does not compare to the newer Conquest. Last year sailed the Voyager and then the Conquest. This year did the Ecstasy and to compare to RCL's Voyager the Conquest is much better than the Ecstasy. Loved the big screen on the Conquest - something not on the Voyager. Also the Lido restaurant on the Conquest is much much better than the Voyager. Debbie

We just booked on the Conquest 2-20-11. Looking forward to it and I haven't been on Carnival in a long time.:)

Firefly - sorry I didn't get to meet you on the Ecstasy over July 4th.

Also wanted to add the outside cabins are very nice on the Conquest as they are the size of the balcony cabins with the balcony all enclosed. I've had both the balcony and the oceanview on the Conquest and have liked both. If there is a huge price difference I would not hesitate to book the oceanview.

I am really leaning towards spending the extra and getting the balcony. I work in a high school and I am sure the ship will be full of kids, I will need an escape!

You will be glad you spent the extra $ on a Balcony room. As I recall the Balcony Rooms are about $100 more than the Ocean View. You will love the Balcony!

Our anniversary is Feb.2 - it will be 37 years!!! So hope you have a wonderful anniversary!

We have been on Ecstasy 4 times (the first being the inaugural cruise) and she is a very special ship. We have been on Conquest 3 times and have always had a wonderful & memorable trip.

The Ecstasy sails 4 & 5 day cruises & the Conquest sails 7 day cruises. So a lot depends on time away and the ports it visits.

The Ecstasy is a more intimate ship (since its smaller). We have always chosen between the Ecstasy & Conquest depending on our work schedule.

Whichever you choose, enjoy!

Royal caribbean's Voyager of the Seas also sails from Galveston in Feb 2011 7 night. It's a little more expensive but the Voyager is a fun ship, and I think the food and service is better, but that is JMHO.

Conquest balcony-689.00-779 depending on what date in feb

Voyager of the Seas balcony-864.00-872.00

What I love about Voyager are the parades down the cobblestone streets, with cafes and bars on either side. The Ice show, which is wonderful and a pretty loose casino [at least for me]

Hey Dave just wanted to say HELLO! Think you'll ever come over to Galveston to Cruise? Doubt if we'll head over to Mobile as well the Elation is a nice ship (we've been on her) but she has none of the upgrades. (extra balconies or water works) her one advantage is Calica and a day in PDC. (LOVE the beach!) Come sail next Christmas on the Magic with us bet the girls would LOVE it! :D And as we're changing ships with NOLA we'll just wait until the Triumph get's here to go on her. But make sure you go on the Ecstasy once she get's there she's our favorite ship in the Fantasy Class! :)

Actually I will be on the Ecstasy Feb 5th on a Cruise Critic group cruise out of Galveston. I wont be able to do anything over Christmas as that is the start of our firework season.
