ranchette Posted September 10, 2010 #1 Share Posted September 10, 2010 Has anyone ever stayed here? How is the hotel and how far to Las Ramblas? Would you reccomend this hotel?
riffatsea Posted September 10, 2010 #2 Share Posted September 10, 2010 I have not stayed there. Here are some reviews from the Trip Advisor web site. http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g187497-d190823-Reviews-Colon_Hotel-Barcelona_Catalonia.html It is very close to the Cathedral and Las Ramblas. BTW Las Ramblas is a very touristy area and so no need to be close at all !!! You can walk there to see the entertainers but try to eat away from that street. FTLcruisers Posted September 11, 2010 #4 Share Posted September 11, 2010 We stayed there 2 years ago and were very pleased. We thought it was a great location - easy walk to Ramblas, the port, etc. We had a room facing the cathedral - beautiful site to see each morning and evening. Rare Hlitner Posted September 11, 2010 #5 Share Posted September 11, 2010 We have stayed at the Hotel Colon on 5 visits and consider it our hotel of choice in Barcelona. We love its near perfect location across the street from the Cathedral in the heart of the Gothic Quarter. You are about 1/4 mile from the Ramblas (5 blocks) and its a nice walk through busy shopping and restaurant streets. Hank
Adsmama Posted September 12, 2010 #6 Share Posted September 12, 2010 It is walkable to the port and to the aerobus stop.
English_in_Spain Posted September 12, 2010 #7 Share Posted September 12, 2010 Another vote for Hotel Colon. We stay there whenever possible when we are in Barcelona (often). The terrace is great for people watcing. If you are there on a Sunday, sit with a coffee on the terrace and watch the people dancing in Cathedral Square. Rare Hlitner Posted September 12, 2010 #8 Share Posted September 12, 2010 It is walkable to the port and to the aerobus stop. Guess the answer depends on how much you want to walk. Assuming you are carrying luggage it makes a lot more sense to simply grab a taxi since it is not that far to the port (about 1 1/2 miles). As to the airport bus stop that is a bit easier but is still a hike if you carrying luggage. Keep in mind that Barcelona has lots of taxis, they are clean, and the prices are quite reasonable when compared to much of Europe. Whenever we are in Barcelona we simply grab a taxi at the airport into town, the port or whatever and cheerfully pay the approxmately 25 Euros for the convenience. Rare Hlitner Posted September 12, 2010 #10 Share Posted September 12, 2010 Do all the rooms have terraces? No. The poster was referring to the Terrace area in front of the hotel where you can relax with a nice drink in the shadow of the Cathedral (across the street) and watch lots of folks walk to and fro. The rooms facing the Cathedral do offer a similar view, but we are not aware of any with "terraces." Hank
FTLcruisers Posted September 12, 2010 #11 Share Posted September 12, 2010 Our friends had a room with a huge terrace - they could have had a party on it! We were 2 floors directly below them and had 2 or 3 windows only. Marianne
tahoemw Posted September 14, 2010 #12 Share Posted September 14, 2010 I stayed there last year, it is right in a big courtyard with a cathedral and restaurants. It was easy walking up to the green and Las Ramblas. Starbucks is within walking distance. The guy at the desk told me about a nice tapas restaurant down the street which was very good. My room was small but it had a nice window that you can see the sites.
