New ship for NCL??

I remember seeing this from Chantiers (now STX Europe) on their website about how they could build it. I would never cruise on a floating island. Where would it dock??? :eek: Plus, if you wanted to bring land with you on a cruise ship then why cruise???! ;)

I like the concept but in order to make it an NCL ship you've got to change some things:

 

For instance that pool in the middle - it's WAY too big, instead pull that out and install a casino there. This way all the smokers will be outside and the smoke bothers no one.:cool:

 

Second where are all the specialty restaurants? Unless there's space for 20 or more - forgetaboutit

So this isn't just an artist's funky dream but something that "could" be built? It looks like a football stadium sitting on a boat with a pool in the middle. Hey you could put zip lines on this too!

Here's hoping NCL NEVER returns to STX Europe - France but it was before the acquisition by STX when it was the Chantiers d' Atlantique shipyard, this blueprint / design was posted on their website for exotic things the shipyard was capable of building. I remember looking at that and thinking... never going to happen. No cruise line would go for it. Maybe a new upstart hotel company looking for something to blow their capital on would but no cruise line would go near such a project!!

This could be tied in to all those people on the other thread who are answering that they prefer SEA DAYS to ports.

 

I'd hate to be on the 'inside' cats that will always be dark like in a tunnel either pool view or ocean view otherwise forget it.

 

How stable would something like that be? If its choppy or whitecaps it would feel like bumper boats falling into the troughs.

Exactly... it doesn't have a bow to cut through the waves so it would be bounced all around and not to mention the poor people in the top of it with the swing axis in rough seas. They'd probably be hurled across their rooms. It'd be worse than that cruise video that resurfaced recently! :eek::D

If you go to the STX site they have a short 5 min video for this "concept" ship. The sails are to aid their engines and reduce the amount of fuel the ship uses. Apparently this eoseas is supposed to be a 'green ship'. Just really liked the idea of the tri-hull.

 

But with all the azipod problems lately maybe the sails ARE a good idea :cool:

 

Only thing is I would NEVER return to STX France to build a ship if I were ANY cruiseline; not after the little firebugs attempted to torch the Epic. :(
