Vancouver will have lots of DAM ships on SUNDAY. Wish I was on one of them!

There will not just be the 3 Holland America ships in Vancouver today. As this is the end of the season in Vancouver, there will be 8 ships in port. The following is an exert from our local newspaper.

"Up to 16,000 cruise-ship passengers are expected to embark and disembark from eight vessels at Canada Place and Ballantyne terminals between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. today.

Passenger traffic peaks in Vancouver at the beginning of the cruise-ship season and at its end, which is this weekend, said Port Metro Vancouver spokeswoman Barb Joy-Kinsella.

"The number of passengers embarking and disembarking will create a lot of congestion around Canada Place," Joy-Kinsella said.

Some of the passengers will be boarding cruise ships on their relocation cruises to southern destinations for the winter season.

The one-day, high-volume event will generate more vehicle traffic downtown and increased demand for taxis and public transit, she said.

Port Metro Vancouver is urging cruise passengers to make transportation arrangements in advance and not to arrive at the terminals before their scheduled boarding time."

There are also 2 big conventions happening beside Canada Place terminal, as well as a couple of major movie shoots downtown. And the Terry Fox Run is also happening today, which is extremely big here in BC. So I hope all those HAL cruisers will take their patience and understanding with them to the terminal today. It is going to be a VERY busy place.

The Zuiderdam left Vancouver yesterday for her final voyage to Alaska for the Season. The Statendam, I believe, heads up there today for a cruise. The Volendam is in Glacier Bay today and will go back to Vancovuer and then will go far far away until next May. The Zaandam leaves for her last Voyage to Alaska today and will finish up next Sunday in Seatte. That will be it for HAL in Alaska in 2010.
