Astro Flyer Posted September 20, 2010 #1 Share Posted September 20, 2010 Anyone have suggestions on a Quebec embarkation? We're considering flying into either Toronto, Montreal or Quebec depending upon how much pre-cruise touring we want to do.
caber Posted September 20, 2010 #2 Share Posted September 20, 2010 We flew into Quebec on 22nd October last year. It was snowing. We booked into a hotel overnight and enjoyed a morning visiting the Montmorencey Falls. It was crisp and sunny, very cold with the snow on the ground and beautiful. At lunchtime we embarked the ship. We had an overnight onboard so had time to go round the Old Port and Old Town that evening and all the next day. Quebec is a lovely city and we would have enjoyed even more time there. cruiseron36 Posted September 20, 2010 #3 Share Posted September 20, 2010 We are doing the Crown from Quebec to FLL next month. We are flying into Montreal and staying there for two days then renting a car to drive to Quebec City for two days prior to embarcation. WE have booked B & B's in both cities. Not having done this before we are hoping to see a lot of the countryside and citty.
alabama ghost Posted September 20, 2010 #4 Share Posted September 20, 2010 Last year we finished our cruise in Quebec, took a train to Montreal and spent 2 nights there before returning home. Loved both Quebec and Montreal (but Quebec was hard to see much of with the snow). We thought there were much more flight options out of Montreal. gooch47 Posted September 20, 2010 #5 Share Posted September 20, 2010 We did the same thing, train to Montreal and then fly home from there. I really enjoyed the train ride, my hubby was bored to tears.
tinker 4 Posted September 20, 2010 #6 Share Posted September 20, 2010 Unlike the states we do not have free drop off for rentals. Check into it and make sure that you will not have to pay an arm and a leg to drop off your rental .

Check into it and make sure that you will not have to pay an arm and a leg to drop off your rental . I realize that, although there is a discount car rental that does have a no fee one way rental. We are renting from Budget for $100 US for a midsize car. This includes all the taxes (WOW, they are more than the car rental in Canada) and a $50 dropoff fee. The only drawback is that we will have to take the 747 bus from downtown Montreal back to the airport to get the car. The downtown budget office does not have one way rentals. The Quebec City dropoff is only a few blocks from our B & B. Probably more costly than the train, but less schlepping of luggage for me. Just checked the train economy special and it is $99 for two. In '04 we sailed the Golden r/t from NYC to New England & Canada. We got lots of light rain & only experienced autumn colors a little bit in Bar Harbor's Acadia park. It was odd weather that year with hot temps then heavy rain shortly before departure creating a situation with minimal changing of colors. Hopefully you won't be in a Canadian port on their Thanksgiving Day which I believe is the 2nd Monday in October because nearly everything was closed for us in Halifax .
