richbum Posted September 23, 2010 #1 Share Posted September 23, 2010 Another question for all of you. Has anyone used priceline and bid on airfare before? Have you gotten better deals with bidding rather than buying direct? Thanks in advance for your help.:D
brunello22 Posted September 23, 2010 #2 Share Posted September 23, 2010 I would only use Priceline to book a hotel, but not air fare. Although you could probably get a super deal on air, the caveat is that you do not have a choice of airline, nor your preferred departure and arrival times, as well as how many stops along the way. For example, if you're flying from your airport in Maine to Miami, your flight may leave at 5:30 am, stope twice, then arrive at your final destination at an undesirable time. Not worth the few bucks savings to me.
Emerald31 Posted September 23, 2010 #3 Share Posted September 23, 2010 Have used priceline twice for bidding on airfare for my cruise. If you go the route make sure you do a pre and postcruise stay. You don't get to choose your times and you may get excellent flights or the worst of the pick. I received flights on United and Delta and while the savings was great the times were not. richbum Posted September 24, 2010 Author #4 Share Posted September 24, 2010 Well, I am glad that I asked. I didn't even think about not being able to choose your times. Thanks for the great responses! I appreciate your help.:D
Host Kewlguy Posted September 24, 2010 #5 Share Posted September 24, 2010 I would only use Priceline for hotels or rental cars. Never for airfare.
Rare silentbob007 Posted September 25, 2010 #6 Share Posted September 25, 2010 Considering you don't have any control on the times, my experience has been even a 30% savings would not be worth the extra hassle ... but your desires may vary, of course. eandj Posted September 26, 2010 #8 Share Posted September 26, 2010 Before all the dicount sites were offered, PL was okay. Not anymore. Shop around and you'll do much better.
