Gingee Posted September 27, 2010 #1 Share Posted September 27, 2010 Okay, I am over 50 (56-shhhh). I wear around a size 6 in pants. The stomach is not flat like it use to be. I bought a sundress on clearance the other day for next spring/summer. It is has wide black straps and is high waisted. It comes a little above my wrinkly knees. Does this sound like a length for someone my age to stay away from?

slidergirl Posted September 27, 2010 #4 Share Posted September 27, 2010 Why not?????? I'm your age, and I have no problem with any woman wearing a dress or skirt above the knee. Just no micro-minis, please ;)
kanitter Posted September 27, 2010 #5 Share Posted September 27, 2010 As long as you're not saggy enough that the girls peek out under the hem line you're good to go no matter what your age.

Happy ks Posted September 27, 2010 #7 Share Posted September 27, 2010 I think we older women look great in dresses just to our knee or maybe an inch above. When I see an older woman in a too short dress, all I think of is that she is trying to look 20 years younger than she is. I don't want to look dowdy or matronly, but trying to look 35 at this age makes a person look a bit silly. I have no problem with my age (57) and embrace it, I don't care to turn back the years. I also wear my shorts to the top of my knees now as well...I leave the shorter ones for the younger women. If they are lucky they will eventually have to consider longer shorts/skirts too ;)
Jesscap5 Posted September 27, 2010 #8 Share Posted September 27, 2010 I think it depends on the dress itself, the way it looks on and the person wearing it. :)
cb at sea Posted September 27, 2010 #9 Share Posted September 27, 2010 While I no longer wear "mini" skirts...I do wear my dresses a bit above my knees...not mid-thigh, but above the knee. It's more comfortable! Use a "firming" lotion on your "wrinkly" knees..it helps!
klauer Posted September 27, 2010 #10 Share Posted September 27, 2010 I think that if you are petite, a dress that hits just below the knees can look kind of frumpy (obviously depends on the style). I usually get my dresses hemmed so that they hit at the thinner part of the leg above the knee when you look at the side (maybe two inches above the knee?). Gingee Posted September 28, 2010 Author #11 Share Posted September 28, 2010 Yes I am petite. Clothes lengths are just awful. Like some of you have said, long ones can look dumpy also. What's a person to do?
suezyq50 Posted September 28, 2010 #12 Share Posted September 28, 2010 I was looking on the talk shows, Today, etc. Looking at the lengths. Many were above the knee.

What's a person to do? Have good tailors and seamstresses on hand!! I DO!! (3 different ones just in case I am in a pinch and one is busy..) Does this sound like a length for someone my age to stay away from? Why does age even have to come into play! As long as you like it, feel great in it and look good, then wear it! Age is just a number!:)
