Carnival Liberty 9/25-10/2

Thank you again for continuing your review. I actually have a question regarding the seating for Your Time Dining guests. I noticed in the Fun Times that you attached that seating for YTD diners was in the Golden dining room, on deck 3. I have copies of some Liberty Capers from last spring (I think it was April) where it is stated that YTD guest are seated in Golden, on deck 4 (i.e. upper level of the dining room). Would you - or anybody else - happen to know whether this was a seating arrangement for this cruise only, or has Carnival moved all YTD guests permanently to the lower level of the dining room on the Liberty? We have not been on our cruise yet, but from what I have figured out looking at photos from the dining room, it appears that the lower level has more tables than the upper level. So is the demand for YTD seating getting higher and making Carnival change the seating arrangements? Somebody please correct me if I am totally wrong in my thinking or if I have absolutely misunderstood the dining room levels.

Yes seating for YTD was in the golden dining room on level 3. It might have to do with the popularity of it. YTD was pretty empty when we went in at 6 but by around 7-7:30 it seemed to be filling up so maybe you are correct that it used to be upstairs and they moved it downstairs because there is more seating. I am not sure though.

Day 3 Jamiacia

I really was not looking forward to Jamiaca. I haven’t been here in years and last time I was there it was not a good experience. Way to many pushy people offering you everything you can think of but my BF really wanted to go Horseback Riding so we booked that excursion. I have not been Horseback riding since I was 17 when I was riding a horse that got spooked and decided to run. Ever since then I have stayed away from them. But we comprised that if we did this excursion I can pick the next five excursions so of course I agreed to that. We boarded a very hot van for the 20 minute ride to the place. After getting off the bus we were given a brief safety briefing then we were each put on our horse. My horse was Nutmeg and as I would soon find out she liked going slow, eating and drinking. Our tour guide was great, I can not rememeber his name but I know his nickname was CJ which he said was for crazy Jamaican. He took our cameras and shot some action shots of us while we were riding.

The only problem I had is anytime we came up to some water my horse wanted to drink and as much as I tried to keep her head up she was more powerful then me and drank. I finally stopped fighting her and let the guide handle it. The same thing happened everytime we stopped she would find something to eat

We finally got to the beach and we changed into our swim gear and it was time to ride bareback. The guide gave me a new horse and hooked it with a leash to his horse. I assumed that meant that I had another slow horse…yeah I was wrong my horse like to run and swim fast in the water. I had to hold on for dear life at some points but it was a lot of fun. After that we dried off and got ready to ride the horses back. I would highly recommend this tour to everyone.

After we got dropped off at a little shopping area by the pier we decided we were hungry and headed back to the ship. We had a guy follow us a couple blocks asking us if we wanted this drug or that drug. Ahh now I remember why I didn’t even want to get off the boat. After a delicious lunch (Mongolian wok again) we were about to head off the boat to the small shops right by the pier when it started down pouring. So much for that idea. We just wandered around the ship until we had to get ready for our dinner reservations at Harrys.

Day 3 continued

I am not a huge fan of going to the specialty restaurants on the ship. I think it has a lot to do with the fact that I am cheap and can not see paying for a meal when I can get food for free. But I am glad I did the food phenomenal. It was so good that we ended up going back there on the last night with the rest of his family.

Harrys Steak house

These two were with the “chefs compliments” The first one was some sort of soup, the second was some sort of beef with a horseradish ice cream on top. Loved the soup not so much the beef.

For the bread-I believe the green was a eggplant salsa, butter, then a bruschetta

119-1.jpg

Escargots-delicious I loved the soup that came with it

120-1.jpg

Baked Onion Soup-the waitress warned us that the soup was very strong but my bf decided to try it anyway. She was right he only ate about half saying it was to strong.

Quick question:

Does the Liberty have a deck mid ship (not high like the Lido Deck) that you can go out on for some quiet time and walk around? I was thinking maybe the deck that has the lifeboats above them. I was just looking at some pictures and was curious.

Thanks!!

Harrys continued

Caesar salad minus the anchovies

122-1.jpg

Surf and turf

123-1.jpg

Caramelized Washington apples

124-1.jpg

Chocolate sampler-if you are a chocolate lover ( like myself) this was to die for

After dinner we walked ( actually I feel like I waddled after eating all that food ) back to the cabin to get changed for the show. This cute little guy was waiting for us

After changing into much more comfortable clothes we headed down to the evening show “It’s a wonderful world”. I thought the show was very good and the singers also very good. After that we headed to the casino for the moon walk and big hair competition. We did not participate in that and there was not to many people getting involved in it so it wasn’t very exciting. After they had a thriller dance class in which I decided to just watch. I am so glad I did and wished I had taken pictures. Watching prob 50 or more people do the thriller dance was hysterical.

You can out on deck 4 (thats where you go for Muster also) but it is weather permitting. Also this deck does not go all the around the ship. The few times I went out there there was not many people out there.

Thanks for the reply. I usually scope out that deck on whatever ship I am on and head out there on sunny days to lay in a lounger (if they them on that deck on that ship) and read in a quiet spot. Glad to hear that this type of deck exists....now if only they have loungers out there I would be all set.

I almost forgot the best part of Day 3. After the Thriller dance class we headed to Quest. For those of you that do not know what Quest is I will not give it away. But if you do not embarrass or offend easily def. go it is alot of fun. We unfortunately lost, there are just some thing we would not do, but I think a good time was had by all who participated.

Attached is the fun times for Day 3

Actually I am 99% sure there were deck chairs (loungers) out there

Sorry to jump in there, but I do think that deck is actually deck 3, off both sides of the atrium bar. It is one deck down from where you go for muster drill, and you will see the lifeboats above. There are some deck chairs, and there are not a lot of people out there. Yes, sometimes when the wind is high, they will close those decks. But it is a nice and quiet place to read, or watch arrival into ports.

Very nice review Steeners, I did also very much enjoy this ship, last year.:)

Yup sorry your right. For some reason I was thinking the lobby was deck 4 and there were doors that went out right there from the lobby.

Great review so far. I'm looking forward to seeing the rest. A friend of mine was on that sailing and I saw her pictures on facebook. It seems like it was a great cruise for everyone. I'm so happy you posted the pictures of the horseback riding in Jamaica. My next cruise goes to Ocho Rios and I'm really interested in that excursion. How long did it last? How many people were there? What other detais could you give me please? Thanks!

I believe you were on the horse for a little over an hour and in our group there was about 15-20 people . the group was split up into smaller groups which each had their own guide. I believe our guide was mainly just with us and one other couple. If you bring a bag with you they will transport the bag to where you swim with the horses so you don't have to wear wet clothing back if you do not want to. I recommend wearing either long shorts or pants. If you dont have them they tell you that you can drape your towel over the saddle.

By posting these fun times ,does that mean they never change. We will be on our cruise in January, will it be the same fun times?

You will prob have similar activities but they will not be the exact same fun times since 1) our itinerary changed and 2) the activities are dependent upon the cruise director

How was the HI Express in Plantation FL ? Was there a couple of years ago and I'm booked there in 2011 because I got a really good rate for one room (69$) plus I used points for another room.

Thanks.

I like it, its just a basic hotel but it seems to be in a good area. They have a hot breakfast, pool, and a gym and thats all I look for in a hotel. My bf lives in that area so I stay there frequently and have never had any complaints.
