Rare shof515 Posted October 8, 2010 #2 Share Posted October 8, 2010 even - port side (left) odd - starboard side (right) overall, its just a personal preference on which side of the ship you like.

viaggi_per_mare Posted October 8, 2010 #4 Share Posted October 8, 2010 even - port side (left)odd - starboard side (right) overall, its just a personal preference on which side of the ship you like. Murphy's Law dictates that whichever side you are on will be the "wrong side" for your particular cruise. That's why we head to the aft cabins, you see both sides and you are never on the "wrong side"
CapeCodCruiser Posted October 8, 2010 #5 Share Posted October 8, 2010 Well - even numbered balconies can be evenly divided by 2, but odd numbered balconies - well they're just odd!:D

That's why we head to the aft cabins, you see both sides and you are never on the "wrong side" Murphy's Law dictated why my sister and niece have a port side balcony cabin and my son and I have a starboard balcony cabin! Dawn with coffee, sunset with wine, whichever port we are in, we can be on the GOOD side! (Honestly, maybe I ought to rephrase. It goes without saying that any side is the good side on a cruise!) Mary Ellen1 Posted October 8, 2010 #8 Share Posted October 8, 2010 Odd-numbered balconies: - You're allowed to play cards. Even-numbered balconies: - You're allowed to play poker. Odd-numbered balconies: - You can bring snacks back from the buffet & eat them. Even-numbered balconies: - You can get room service. Odd-numbered balconies: - Are best for napping Even-numbered balconies: - Are best for reading (but not for Kindles -- for that you should get an Odd-numbered balcony). Odd-numbered balconies: - Are better for listening to music with headphones. Even-numbered balconies: - Are good for playing air guitar. This is not a comprehensive list, but was just the first few differences I could think of. Anybody got anything to add, that I've missed? ;)
firefly333 Posted October 8, 2010 #9 Share Posted October 8, 2010 port side, even numbers, used to be favored when ships always had this side facing ports when docked. Now the ship may back in and you are facing away, you never know.

blindrid Posted October 8, 2010 #12 Share Posted October 8, 2010 and I don't understand why.. Just because you keep reading, doesn't make it correct. A lot of people still think that port side means facing the port as it was many moons ago. As others have mentioned, you never know. So remember, don't always believe what you read (including some in here) on the net.

madgally Posted October 8, 2010 #15 Share Posted October 8, 2010 Trying to understand what is the diff between odd numbers balconies and even, and which one is better? ODD - Port Side Even - Water Side It has nothing to do with the balcoines all odd rooms are the the port side and all even on the water side. Carnival says the even sides are more popular but I love the odd side much better. Would rather see the other ships and whats at the port then water that you see the bulk of the cruise. Of course we all like different things so to each his or her own. I hope you have a nice cruise, good luck!!
KCMarie Posted October 8, 2010 #16 Share Posted October 8, 2010 odd-number balconies - must order from BV I placed my vodka order from BV this morning, even though I didn't know it was required since I do have an odd number balcony! :) Surely, everything read here is accurate, no? cruisebabe63 Posted October 8, 2010 #17 Share Posted October 8, 2010 This isn't true for all ships or decks but our PVP pointed out that on the Legend, mid-ship the inside cabins doors are towards the Odd side of the ship. Meaning if you're in a balcony on the even side when you exit or enter your cabin you will not see any inside cabin doors across the hall. In theory it's quieter due to the fact that you won't have as many doors opening/closing, slamming shut, less voices in hall way, etc.
