Late cancellation

We're leaving on the Freedom in 2 days. One of the families in our group has had a sudden illness in their family causing them to not be able to go. They did NOT buy insurance. Will they get anything back this late in the game?

Technically, no. They can always call Royal Caribbean personally to discuss it and see if there are any options, but that would be Royal's decision.

I'm not sure about RCCL, but Last year Disney reimbursed me 50% when I cancelled a week before due to family illness.

Also, have them check with their credit card company, they may be covered.

We were reimbursed the other 50% by the credit card company.

Why anyone thinks RCI should "do" something for those who cancel within the penalty period puzzles me. That is why we buy travel insurance. And we have had to use it twice!

Chill 39 your not talking to one of those complainers wanting something for nothing. Just simply asking a question. No one said RCI should have to do anything. Don't expect RCI to do anything. Just a question.

They should be able to get back taxes, port fees and any prepaid expenses such as gratuities, excursions, specialty dining etc. They are not entitled to have any of the cruise fare refunded. In rare circumstances RCI has been known to offer a percentage of the fare towards a future cruise - so it may be worthwhile for them to call, explain their situation and ask, but there is a very good chance they will not be able to recover any of the cruise fare without insurance. I'd recommend that when they call they have a specific future cruise selected and ask if they can apply some of the funds of the current cruise towards that cruise.
