"Sludge" on Princess Cays?

Hello,

Silly question, but a few years back on our visit to Princess Cays, one of the members of our group went to do a little exploring on his own. While walking around the island he found himself somewhat stuck in a black sludgy looking substance. He had to physically pull his legs out with his hands, that's how thick it was... Does anyone know what this was? It wasn't on the beach where everyone was hanging out... it was more of a tree/bush filled area off the beaten path.

We were laughing about it the other night and realized we never did find out what it was! Definitely something we want to avoid on our next trip though!!

Thanks!

Hmm... it's quite possible it's the source of the coffee syrup... they probably use our time on the island to refill the ship!

Mud swamps sound most likely... or the tar. Guess we'll never know for sure. Then again, we probably don't want to know!
