Top Dog 1 Posted August 24, 2011 #2 Share Posted August 24, 2011 I would like to know if the Constellation will have the World Series?
Rare Lois R Posted August 25, 2011 #3 Share Posted August 25, 2011 The ship gets Fox News but not sure what they are doing when it comes to televising the World Series. I know they always show the SuperBowl but that is only a 1 night event.:) Its never a "given" but maybe someone who has sailed over the course of the series has first hand information. Are you cruising for the entire series?
kitty9 Posted August 25, 2011 #4 Share Posted August 25, 2011 If ESPN Deportes picks it up, and they usually do because of the high number of Spanish speaking players, you'll see it. But Celebrity does not carry the regular Fox network.
miched Posted August 25, 2011 #5 Share Posted August 25, 2011 . If it is on it will be in the sports bar. The channels in the cabins won't. When on a Princess cruise the world series was shown on the big out door screen. I think all lines try to show major sporting events but are limited by the satellite feed. . Hi,:) Celebrity's ships don't have Sportsbars. Now, the new S class will have Michael's Club as a microbrewery. But the other ships in fleet do not have them. If the ESPN connection carries the World Series? They show the same thing in the cabin as in other areas....(the casino does have screens). PartyAllDaTyme Posted August 25, 2011 #7 Share Posted August 25, 2011 It is technically possible for them to carry the World Series if it's on Fox. Fox carried the last Super Bowl, and I was impressed that Celebrity was able to get access to the affiliate feed, which is the feed that the local stations receive and rebroadcast. It's fed with all the national commercials-- all the local station has to do is insert the locally sold spots. I used to work for a CBS affiliate, and the affiliate feeds were encrypted so not just anyone could access them with one of those big ol' satellite dishes. I assume Fox has the same arrangements. Therefore, Celebrity had to have made special arrangements to have a decoder installed aboard and likely had to pay a fee to download the feed. Whether or not they would feel it to be worthwhile to do so for the World Series would remain the question.

jc719 Posted August 25, 2011 #9 Share Posted August 25, 2011 We were on Solstice in the Caribbean during the 2010 World Series and it was shown on stateroom TV & at the sportsbar (at least). It wasn't the Fox feed, however (different graphics, commentators, etc.). IIRC, it was an ESPN-affiliated network (maybe ESPNStar, the Asian Disney-Star joint venture), but not the US-ESPN. But it was fine since San Francisco won.

When on the Sostice I was told that the sports bar showed games on the TV's. I think they also refer to the bar in the casino as the sports bar because they show those games there. The good thing about it is there is no smoking like all the other cruise lines that combine the sports and cigar bar. .
